Air Con Worries (leaking - Water ?) And First Service Help Please

Featured Replies

I've got a new Isuzu Highlander 3.0L 4 door 2WD auto

Its done 4300 kms and at about 4000 it started discharging water (is it water) from a discharge pipe in the engine bay (please see attached photos).

OK so the weather has got a little hotter but I've driven it to Buriram and back before and not had this problem (is it a problem ?). Last night was quite cold yet it was still giving out this liquid. I am worried there is somethig wrong and I am only slightly comforted that it is coming from a discharge pipe obviously put there for a purpose.

I have stated previously that I am unhappy with short journey fuel economy and wonder if these could be related.

Finally, the 5000km service is due soon and i would be really grateful if you more knowledgeable guys could advise me what to look out for. Change the oil every 5k not 10k I reckon is a started but for what oil ? Filters, aircon service. I really know little about the workings of a 21st century car.

Thanks for all help.

Water dripping from the aircon discharge is quite normal, it's condensate from the cooling matrix. I expect you only noticed at 4000km and it's been doing it all the time :o

What sort of economy (or lack of) are you experiencing?

The service book will detail what is to be done at each service. At 5k they will change the oil and probably the filter tighten the bits that have come loose (new car), now is the time to mention all the rattles and odd noises that have appeared. :D

Normal services for a diesel are 10k intervals. The dealer will use the recommended lubricants for your vehicle.

My car really puts out water from the AC discharge.. I assumed it was just the car cooling system normally working with condensed vapor..

my sportrider leeks back and front from both aircons ,told this is normal .........

Thanks for that reassurance guys.

Can I just be sure that the place it is leaking from shown in the picture is actually from the aircon ?

As for fuel economy, I have difficulty getting above 8km/ltr around Pattaya and less if I drive harder. Yes it is an auto but that economy is shocking. On a run, say to bangkok, I get about 11.5 or so which is lower than I would expect. I hoped for about 10-12 around town with 12-15 on a run.

Anyone got any comparative data or knowledge ?

I'd agree that your consumption is rather disappointing, my Ranger (manual box) averages 11-12 per litre (mix of highway and sitting in BKK traffic), approaches 15 on a long steady run :o
