Yes, you can go by motorbike, the roads are generally in a good condition. However, watch out for cows, buffalos, droppings of cows and/or bufalos, motorcycles coming from nowhere, moorcycles without light, pick-up trucks without lights, pick-up trucks pulling into the mainstreet without warning, oncoming cars of any size at any speed on any lane etc...

If you want to make it a scenic tour, rather follow the road along the Mekhong than going straight across. Will add some extra miles, but worth it!
