Dear members,

Hoping someone can share some advice on the following situation/questions. All relates to my adopted son (100% Thai) and his small daughter (100% Thai). My son has recently divorced from his Thai wife, all finalized/all documented at local district office (in Bkk). My son has legal custody of his daughter, all documented and signed by his ex-wife. (I am Australian, live/work permenantly in Bkk, have permannent resident status.)

My questions are:

1. Does Thailand issue separate passports to 2.5 years old children or are the childs details added to a parents passport? (Father already has passport, ex-wife does not have passport.)

2. If added to a parents passport does it have to be mother / father, or is this up to whoever lodges the application for a passport for the child?

3. Given the whole circumstances mentioned above, my son will obviously be the person making the application for his daughters passport, however will he need some documentation from his ex-wife to give 'permission' for the passport to be issued/ permision for it to be added to the father's passport (if adding to parents passport is the procedure)?

4. After passport is issued, when my son goes to Suvanabhumi airport to depart Thailand, will Thai International (or any airline), and also will Thai Immigration, request a letter from the other parent giving permission for the daughter to leave the country.

All of this is in relation to a planned trip to Singapore coming soon. There will be return tickets.

Would appreciate any advice you can share or perhaps the name / phone no. of appropriate agency where my son could call to inquire. Have already asked some of these questions to Thai International but never get clear answers.

Thank you.

I am using 3rd hand info so I am nowhere near 100% sure. Please get this verified.

1. Yes separate passports

2. so n/a

3. take the legal custody document. This surely must suffice.

4. A friend took his children to the UK without his wife. He simply had a letter from his wife. There were no problems at the airport.
