Can Anyone Share Tatto Experience, Price, Info?

Hi all:

Just wondering if anybody can share an experience and general info in getting a tattoo in Bkk, especially with Jimmy Wong or his 2 children? I have read a bunch of old threads dated back a few years, but none has mentioned of the price--I am thinking about getting one on my upper leg. Since he's so popular, does he still accept new customer? Do I need to make an appointment in advance? How advance? Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!

I'm not sure if this is up-to-date information, but at June 2007 there was at least one tattoo studio at MBK called T-TeeTattoo. (1st floor)

Up until fall '06 Jimmy Wong had a studio also at MBK (6th floor), but I don't know if it's still there.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that nobody would answer. Do you know a good tattoo artist at T-Tee Tattoo?

MBK is mega expensive and seems to think all farang customers are tourists and will pay blindly. Try the whole road of tattooist behind the MAll at Bangkapi. (it's opposite side of the road from Tesco Lotus). The street is next to the pizza place, (pizza company i think).

I used the stall called Tattoo Central and the guy came to my house. Good quality work and everything was clean.

I got one done in T-Tee in MBK about 4 years ago. There are 3 artists there and they all seem to be pretty capable. The first price they quoted me was ridiculous, after bartering I got it down to something like 25% of what they said!! The work was good and they designed an original design for me based on my ideas. I had to go back after about 4 weeks for a touch up which they carried out with no questions.

Eyrek,

I think that You should follow up the information given by Nidge and Ashachat, because my information was (just like I thought) sort of secod-handish - I got it from a finnish thread and I wasn't sure how correct that information was.

Here's an example of the work done in Bang Ka Pi. It took about 7 hours, (including lunchbreak), and was done at my apartment.

Thank you very much everybody for your input. Nidge, that is one awesome tattoo. I am also thinking of a tattoo of a Thai mythical creature as well, perhaps a naka (Thai mythical serpant king). The one you got is really nice. How old is the tattoo? Do you have the artist's name or number? By the way, what's MAII? Also, I have checked out the tatt2dude.com website. It's very informative.

You guys are are so cool! Thanks a bunch.

eyrek,

It's MALL as in "shopping mall", any taxi driver should know where to go. The pic was taken 5 minutes after completion but it is about 4 years old now. I don't have the contact number anymore but i have a pic of the tattooist if that helps?

Hi

I had a thai dragon tattooed on my stomach in April 07 by the guy who won Mr Tattoo Bangkok in 05. He specialises in big work especially dragons and japanese carp. All his work is original and once done he will not do the same tattoo a second time.

He is based in the Seacom centre in Bangkok (there are two there) and speaks no English so you will need someone who speaks Thai.

My tattoo was a 7 hour ordeal. I wanted strong colour so the needle had to go deep!!! And the stomach is a painful area but the result is stunning. The quality of the lines and the detail are brilliant.

I go back next month and will be going back to him for more work.

In terms of pricing my wifes cousins all use this guy (they all have yakuza type tats) so my wife dropped a few names and I paid what I consider to be a total bargain price of 10,000 baht for my 7 hour tattoo, a 1 hour tattoo for the wife and he spent 45 minutes touching up a tattoo I had done the year previously in Pattaya. He said that if I left the shop and someone thought he had done the pattaya job he would have to retire!! So he re-did some of the lines and the coluring and that looks great too. He did not strike me as the sort of guy who would rip off farang as his clientele is almost entirely Thai and he is busy. Also the Seacom centre is not on the tourist trail.

I would thoroughly reccommend this guy.

Thanks guys for your reply. I've been told that I should talk to a couple of tattoists and feel the vibe before I decide. So, I am very grateful for the leads from you guys.

Nidge: Sure, the pic of the tattoo artist would be great. Let's hope he hasn't changed much. I don't know whether the artist would mind posting his pic in a public forum. So, here is my e-mail: [email protected]. Any other tips or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

sgunn65: I am very much interested in your tattoo artist and also very curious of his work. Do you have a pic of your tattoo? If you want to keep this private, you can send his contact info and your tattoo pic to my e-mail as well.

However, if you don't mind sharing the info in the public forum, please feel free to post the pic and contact info here. Thanks!!!

This is my tattoo, seven hours of hel_l but worth it (at least I think so)

You're right--it looks really painful. However, I really like the design, and the quality of the line and colors are amazing! I want one of that, but I don't think I have the stomach (literally) to endure it. Do you have the name of the artist or the store?

Cool! When you kick the bucket, do you have plans to preserve it? Like a lampshade or somethin'? :o

Hi

I got my dragon done in a place in the Seacom Centre just outside the city centre (any taxi driver will know it). On the first floor there are two tattoist. My one will have lots of dragon drawings lining the wall (see background of pic). The tattooist is called Nuu but he speaks almost zero english so take a friend who speaks thai.

All his tattoos are originals so you probably won't get it done the same day. I am working on my next one by Nuu and will probably have some japanese work done on my arms.

Hope you get a good one and you post it for us to see.

Cool. I'll check it out my next visit to Bangkok which should be early next year. Thanks for all the info.
