Thailand and Panama strengthen diplomatic and trade relations

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Nitya Pibulsonggram, had a discussion with Mr. Samuel Lewis Navarro, the Vice President and Foreign Affairs Minister of Panama, and signed an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders. At the same time, Panama has accepted the invitation to become a member of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). Panama has also invited Thailand to establish a Royal Thai Embassy in the country.

The meeting between both Foreign Affairs Minister took place yesterday (September 24th) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City in the United States of America. During the meeting, Mr. Nitya spoke about the clear political development in Thailand. He said the general election will definitely be held on December 23rd this year. He said Thailand is also looking forward to increase trade opportunities with Panama by inviting Panama’s businessmen to visit the country between October and November, 2007.

Mr. Nitya said he also studied the benefits from the free trade areas in Latin America, with an aim to boost the export sector of Thailand.
