Does anyone know how to begin to apply for Citizenship or if I am entitled as my father was Thia and mother Filipino? I was born in the Phillipines. I have limited documentation regarding my father and no contact with his family.

Without knowing much more details about your case, I can sense that you have a long, though not hopeless road ahead of you. I was once sitting behind a computer in the USA Seven years ago, wandering about my unknown Thai family hoping to find a contact of family in Thailand to give me a reason to finally come to my mother('s) land.

Who would have thought, seven years later, I'd be Thai, legally and having met and discovered all my long last family that I never knew growing up. Anyway, just to get an idea, take a look at this post I made seven years ago, lost confused, and curious on a Thai genealogy forum

Curious me Seven years ago

And who would have thought...

Seven Years later

In between the two posts...seven years of so much dedication, determination, frustration, and...well it's so much. but just want to let you know, it will pay off in the end... but you WILL need to locate your surviving Thai family, and uncover all documents for legalisation, etc. etc.

Don't worry, my path started with a 40 year old black and white picture with a message on it, that I couldn't then read.

Good luck!

what do you have from your father documentation wise?

I only have a death certificate from the Phillipines where he died. But it has his birthplace on it, in Thialand

Thank you, your case sounds very similiar to mine, any suggestions where to start.

First step... you need to get the death certificate legalized, meaning, it will need to be legalized up to the National level by Government of Philippines. As well as your own birth certificate, which should state that you are your father's son and I assume your birth certificate states the nationality of your father.

My own birth certificate and mother's death certificate legalized (by both governments at national level) and translated were the main (but not only) documentation that were used in 'proving Thai nationality' here in Thailand. Do know that the one document will turn into a thick packet of stamped and translated documents at different levels of government before Thai authorities in Thailand are satisfied that they're valid.

Anyway, before I go on, perhaps you might have less heart ache if you contact the Thai embassy in Philippines first, assuming you are there and not Thailand, as that route should definately prove a lot less headache granted the embassy officials are cooperative with you there. I'm not sure of Filipino law regarding dual nationality or how frequent they recieve such cases, but that would be your best start. (Even the embassy would be reporting to Thailand authorities as far as getting you legal, though with the embassy as a filter, it may prove less heartache than direct as I had to do)

If it turns out to be a dead end at the embassy in Filipinos, Thailand is just over the sea. Another few factors that may make difference, as far as hassle (not necessarily law) is your age and sex?

Cheers
