G'day again.

More help needed.

I want to send my girl some flowers for her birthday. I assume flowers will be a hit ???

She's an Issan country girl. I'll send via this site, I think. What sort of Aussie dollars should I look at spending ?

If I was sending a special lady flowers here at home I'd look at spending around $80 to $100. That's for a very special lady. :-)

Thanks all... looking for your help.

Cheers.

have you ever been in Thailand Malt ?

I will buy my wife flowers at the night market but they do not go over as well as in the States. She will say thank you. Any way flowers are really not expensive here at all.

If y want to make a big hit hel_l buy her a gold toe ring cost less than 4000 bht and trust me she will love it.

If u have time just ask a friend to pick one up at a local gold shop and she can always have it sized.

To those of u that may think gold toe rings are not use in Thailland-You were correct but the King's #1 daughter had a photo shot and she had them on. So now it is fashion.

Have a good one.

Forget the flowers thing! :D

Tell her that you want to send some money for her birthday, and transfer to her account.

Then she can use her gift the way she want. The amount is up too you, but I would suggest from baht 5000,- and up.

In Thailand money is number one, and someone is always sick or somethings need repair.

I also suggest that you surf this forum and read as much as you can about Thai people, Thai culture, and anything else regarding life and living in Thailand. :o

Malt48, youd be better thought of if you were to buy our wives/gfs some flowers, all the replys we have given you and only 1 in return out of the 4 posts you have made, a lot of people on here have given you sound advice and used there own time to do so, so how about some feedback from you?

You know, when you've lived here for a while it can be painful reading these kind of threads.

Yes, toe rings are very popular in Thailand, and toe-jam remover is a very acceptable supplement.

Hey thomo... why would a simple question like mine be painful ? I thought it was pretty well basic, unoffensive & to the point. I'd appreciate knowing what you find painful...I'm interested in learning as much as I can about Issan life & what I might be getting myself into.

I do need all the help I can get.

Thanks.

:o i think you will find the thai familly will have no problem deciding what to spend your money o.

remember it is your wallet and not the gifts they will expect.

It would take a long time to expalin, no offence meant for you. When you live in LoS and Isaan for a while it can be painful reading about guys sending the girls here things like money every month, gifts that although only cost a few $ cost more than half a months average salary here.

IME there isn't sentimentality (if that's a word) here like there is in the west. Flowers mean bugger all except how much they cost and how much is he (the farang) going to spend on the next gift.

Thai guys don't buy flowers for their GF's, give them money every month or dote on them at every chance... and your girl is Thai, not Aussie.

Thai society is based on status, brought about by money, it is more important than love or how people really feel (or don't really feel) about each other. Thailand is VERY VERY VERY different from the west.

Confused? Welcome to Thailand.

Just wondering

What did u decide on a present?

Why not just get a cheap flight over and surprise her with your presence for a few days?

I'm sure it would be much more appreciated.

If you need to make an impression - flowers delivered in Thailand will not, as 95% of the time they will always arrive - at your great expense, wilted with broken heads etc,.

Flowers wilt and die - if you can not travel then send something that lasts.

eg for the cost of sending a quality bouquet of flowers here (3000 baht) the money could buy her a new washing machine, tv, rice cooker + microwave, baking oven, or 9 cases of beer chang :o .

The choice is up to you.

G'day again.

Thanks for all the replies.

One thing is for sure, I won't be sending bloody flowers. May be just a card with a big G'day.

Thanks again.

M mate, buy a book called 'Culture Shock'. (The Thailand edition obviously) Think they have one for each country/region of the world.

It's small, cheap and I read it in 2 days. You'll learn a lot. I did, and I've been here on and off since 2001.
