I am looking to learn basic conversational Thai for an hour or two every day in Central Chiang Mai.

Can anyone suggest where I can find someone to teach me on a regular basis? And, what would be the going rate for such lessons?

Hi shepsel.

I dont know of any direct contact sorry..but i suggest calling up YMCA and/or AUA for recommended tutors.

There are a lot of tutors advertising their services in CM mail and various leaflets etc..but it may be hard to gauge how well their teaching and if its value for money. With YMCA and AUA they can recommend someone with experience.

You could try Chiang Mai Thai Language Center on Ratchadamnoen, same block as the Writer's Bar. I studied one-on-one there with an experienced teacher a few times per week over several months. The rate was 200 baht/hour, but that was six years ago. I briefly studied northern dialect at AUA, also a one-to-one situation. Thia was perhaps because I was the only student at the time who wanted to learn northern dialect but they seemed happy enough to accomodate my request.
