Last Wed. I went the Chiang Mai Immigration office to extend my retirement visa for another year. I must say that I was apprehensive after reading all the conflicting reports on this subject.

This is my experience:

I am an American, and had a updated bank book, with the funds being in it for three months. The letter from the bank was the same amount and date as the last entry in the book, also it had the 800 thou. on deposit. The officer was content with that, and they were very courteous to me, and I to them.

My letter made no mention of the origin of the funds, and he made no mention of it either.

It took me about an hour and a half, and was a pleasant experience overall.

It makes their job easier it you have the copies and photo from the shop next door, witch is easy and they want you to use it. Sign the copies.

Also I really think it helps to give a good impression, by dressing appropriately, not in short pants, and being respectful, as you should be to any official. Have the correct change for the fee.

Now good for another year.
