Chipmumks?

Featured Replies

I was strolling through the Sunday street market the other day and saw a guy with 3 cages of pets for sale. The first had white hedgehogs.

The second and third had two similar type small animals that looked I suppose like chipmunks. They were about twice the size of a mouse with bushy tails. One cage had a basic brown coloured one and the other was brown with a reddish underbelly.

Does anyone know exactly what these chipmunk animals are, if they are legal to keep and how easy are they to keep as pets.

They looked cute and I wouldn’t mind keeping some as pets.

Don't do it. The restaurant next door to us had an albino hedgehog in a fish tank (empty), the poor thing looked so miserable. IMHO, you shouldn't really keep pets that are not native to the region you live in, and wild animals are not pets. :o

There are squirrels native to the region, we have tons of them on our island and alot of people keep them as pets.

This one is a baby

Could be one of those, could be an Asian chipmunk.

Never saw the interest in a rodent for a pet myself. But, to each their own I suppose.

Thanks sbk, they looked like the squirrels. We don’t have space to run a small dog and as they were cute and small I thought they would be nice as an alternative pet.

They are widely kept as pets, even where I live where they are wild. Same as any rodent --get them young from captive bred parents and you should be fine.

Apologies for my snotty reply, still wading through boxes of shipping that arrived two weeks ago :o
