Four drown when car plunges into canal in Pathum Thani

PATHUM THANI: -- A sedan car plunged into a canal here early Saturday morning and all four people inside drowned, police said.

The accident happened at 2:30 am in Klong Luang district.

Police said the car lost control and plunged into the Rapipat Canal behind the Thai Market just before it could climb up the bridge across the canal.

Police said the spot was dark and the part of the road is a sharp curve.

Police have yet to identify two men and two women inside the car because they did not carry any identification card.

Police said another similar accident happened at the scene Thursday night, killing one person and injuring four others.

very easy done in heavy rain ,dark floods hard ro navigate ,rip

RIP

Wouldn't erecting some form of barrier be advisable?

Condolences to the friends and family.

There are far too many of these types of places on the roads where, if your not familiar with the area, this sort of accident can happen. Roads and bridges need to be designed with safety in mind and they need to have warning signs and barriers.

You are absolutely right .

^ Yes, and people need to drive properly and safely on the roads here. A bad workman blames his tools.

They put safety guards on angle grinders just for aesthetic reasons then. :o

This same kind of accident happened to a local family years ago. They were driving back from Bangkok in heavy rain, the car probably hydroplaned, slid into the huge ditch in the middle of the road and everyone drowned except for the boy who was in the back of the SUV. His Aunt, Uncle, cousin and both grandparents died in that accident.

And that was at least 10 years ago. Safety rails don't seem to have caught on in Thailand yet. :o

Safety rails etc can't "catch on", as you put it, in a country with no tax base. You need to examine the Thai economy carefully and, when you do, you'll see that they do wonders with the little bit of road funding there is. If they had extra funding it might be better spent on driver education......

Some idiot cannot drive a car, kills 4, and we blame it on the road. Yeah why not.

Plenty of places here to blame it on the road.

Careful on the motorway from the airport heading south.

Heavy construction work for kilometers and dangerously placed temporary and unlit road signs, as in 20 metres before the deathtrap coming at you. Uneven pavement by 3 to 4 inches, newly resurfaced road sections, no lighting nor painted lines, sometimes the old lines are still there with the new lines, total confusion. :o. Road crews created dangerous opportunities for accidents, having no idea how to set it up safely AND the signage gets blown or knocked around.

I, and perhaps others, now look forward to you to divulge the extra information you have on the manner of driving by the "idiot" prior to the accident, and the condition of the road ie information that is not readily ascertainable from the press report in the OP.

After all, I am sure there must be some rational basis to your post.

One of the lasses was only nineteen and a school chum of my Daughter in Law,she was cremated at our village temple today...
