I've heard they lost their case and have to move .... any news to confirm this .... are they really going to move, do they have to build a new club house ?, they were expecting to make an announcement on nov 29 and nothing happened .... god's will

The som-tam lady tells me, that the Devil is to blame, for all this mess. :D And I notice she lately has lots of new sunburned farang customers, wearing shirts & ties, talking earnestly to one another. I'm thinking of speaking only Swedish or Arabic, when visiting her esteemed establishment, in future. Will this protect me against vampires or other pests ? :o:D

Grace was so bloody concern about security after 9/11. went in once when world club gym was still open to renew my membership. the guard stopped me on the way going into the clubhouse. told him i just wanna go pay my fees. he said no, come back after 5.00pm which was only 15minutes away. went back to my truck and next thing i knew, police were at my workplace asking about me as they were notified "of an attempted terrorist trying to get into the premises". "taliban"? :o

stupid fcks.

the sale was illegal and hence, they should get the <deleted> out of there. it was a wonderful club and i had to leave because of this grace school dispute. serves them right. like someone else mentioned, a better atmosphere at The Dukes.

This is hearsay and I am unsure of its veracity, although the people who told me have every reason to know the facts of the case.

I am told that Grace are being refused a license to open a new school. If this is true, they may have to move out of Thailand.

hallelujah.

Last night, there surely were more cars parked outside Grace, as if there was a big meeting, and more lights on than usual. I do not remember any big event being posted on the marquee this week. Also, I got waved through both entrances without having to show my ID, so the security was a bit lax at WorldClub last night, too.

Statement from the Grace International School Educational Foundation (GISEF) and the Trustees: We have prayed and come together as the GISEF and Trustees to discuss GIS future. It is our decision to direct the Superintendent to locate suitable property for building a K-12 campus. It is our intent to see GIS become all that God has planned. That plan may also include continuing to use our present location. We await the outcome of the action being taken against the school to determine the future use of our current facility. In the meantime, the school will continue to operate as usual. God has blessed us greatly in the past and we will continue to trust in Him for the future.

As the verbiage says on the GIS website, these missionary evangelical types can hardly finish a sentence without invoking God's blessings on anything. The statement in the post above tries to have "God's will" both ways: to keep the campus they already have or stole, and to have or steal another campus, with God's blessing, regardless of Thai law....pardon me, I'm still an evangelical kinda sorta, but I'm not that extreme.

To locate the property to build a K 12 school on, should no problem, around Chiang Mai. Do they have the money to purchase said land. up front, and futhermore are they going to buy it or continue to use present campus, The statement above sounds like a polictian telling what he or she will do in the future, (IF) elected. But I guess Gods will and the peoples will will prevail.

I was in an elevator in a hotel full of Christian Missionaries last week and one young fellow was going on and on about, "God wants me to do this" and that - like God had called him on the telephone and told him. He sounded like an imbecile.

These brainwashed types who never think of anything else, really do put me off. :o

I got talking to a group of lads who turned out to be the god squad by mistake yesterday while taking a songthaew, suddenly noticed they were all carrying bibles, luckily I hadn't got onto the subject of the best places to go for the nighlife in Chiang Mai :D

The school have repeatedly been offered compromise solutions by the management of the World Club, but have never responded, let alone entered serious negotiation.

There is method in their supposed madness. They have charity agents back in the Good Ole midwest Yoo Ess of Ay busily milking their flock of gullible Christians of every last cent available to help their magnificent Grace Academy continue to Fight The Good Fight on behalf of Jesus in the land of Heathens.

They will continue to milk the situation for all it is worth until they find another, better reason.

The whole Grace entity looks to be a money making venture. It is funded with donations from the US. A normal school's biggest expense, the staff, are unpaid by Grace, they have to get their home congregation to pay them. The school pays no rent but they still charge fees equivalent to other international schools in Chiang Mai.

Interesting to know where all their money goes to????

The Fee schedules I've seen from Grace Academy are significantly cheaper than other international schools. At least Lanna and APIS, and of course PREM.

Lannarebirth...

I've heard that the school fees are much lower ONLY if you are part of their mission. According to the info I've read, their REGULAR prices are actually higher than the schools you listed. Here's the annual costs listed in the Sanook Book for an 8 year old..

Prem 273 000

NIS 160 000

Grace 157 000

CMIS 121 000

German School 120 000

APIS 80 000

Lanna 133 000

Those aren't the figures I was working with when I looked at it. Prem was higher and Grace was lower. there was some kind of vetting process, to do with Christian belief, and I believe we did not pass it.

A story from a friend of mine:

Grace Teacher: Why do you look so frowned today?

Kid: My grandmother passed away last night.

Grace Teacher: No.. I'm so sorry. Is she a Christian?

Kid: No.. she's...

Grace Teacher: I'm so sorry to tell that she's for sure going to hel_l for not accepting the existance of God.

Kid: .... (speechless and moved to Prem) ....

Went to Regina Coeli when I was younger. The nuns kept at me to take my English father to church every Sunday. One day I asked why they never asked my mother to go and the nun said, "it is no use, she won't be joining you and your father in heaven." Needless to say, I told her my father and I would rather be in hel_l with mum.

Grace educates the privileged and elite - not very Christian

Grace discriminates based on nationality, race and religion - not very Christian

Their volunteers live in houses that have more bedrooms than people and employ 'servants' to clean, cook and wash - not very Christian

If Jesus were around, he would throw these devils in God's clothes out of the country

I did Christian School in Middle school and even attended a Christian University.

When I left Middle school (I wanted to think for myself) I was asked what i had learned, I looked the head Master in the eye and said "how to fight" and I left. I was in constant fist fights due to my father being Jewish...

Though in Uni I learned that as with any place, there are people ranging mild to wild. I met some great people and came to terms with my views on Religion.

I do however get sick of hearing "isn't it amazing that you were lucky enough to find a Thai wife who is Christian?" That had nothing to do with it, I don't care less, my family even told me if I wanted to be Buddhist we could support three religions under one roof. This belittling of people and holier than thou BS gets on my nerve, but don't forget that in the background there are some sane people who don't want to ram it down your throat :o

I went to Catholic schools for 13 years. Not a singled punch found it's mark. Good education though.

Some fair few years ago I ordained as a Buddhist monk. At that time my girlfriend, and the person to whom I entrusted my life, my home, my business and everything was a fairly strict Catholic. (She was Thai.)

She came to see me to tam boon with food etc. almost every day I was in the temple, bringing my children when they were out of school. Not all Thai Christians are totally blinkered.

(I am happy to relate that she is now happily married to a fellow Catholic and they have a successful business back in the UK. Our relationship was destroyed by a Buddhist, supposed friend, which is a story I only relate to good friends when I am in my cups.)

Come on, don't tell us christianity is a form of communism or is asking for poverty. And even in communist countries the leaders have servants to clean, cook and wash. Do think Fidel Castro is cleaning his dishes.

What a rubbish and full of envy.

What choices do you have if you want a decent (to western standards) education without the God squad bearing down on you in CHiang Mai?

Well, if you want to go to any of the colleges in the world, Prem would be the best choice. Since it has the IB Diploma which is widely accepted and considered to be one of the most rigorous high school program in the world. Moreover, its curriculum has a subject called TOK where students have to critically think about "How do you know?" "What makes you believe?" "Why do you believe?" and stuff, which is completely opposite to Grace.

Another great choice would be CMIS. It has a long long reputation and it's a prefect match for those who are going to go to American colleges.

True. Not all of the christians are bad.

But brainwashing kids aren't right. Let them make their own decision for their lives. Let them learn "alternative" religions.

Grace DOES discriminate other religions, calling itself an international school, they should be more open-minded about this. They should actually call themselves International Christian School or something.

Do you remember the parable of Jesus dividing EQUALLY the loaves and fish? This is a lesson. Why don't Christian missionaries share equally their salaries with the people they're converting? Why don't these messengers of God send their children to the same schools as their converts? Greed and selfishness is why.

If you want to make political comparisons, then yes I do feel the bible is closer to a socialist ideal than a capitalist one. Sure Fidel doesn't clean his own crap but what's that got to do with Grace or Christianity.

I feel the American interpretation of the bible is heavily influenced by a political, and not a moral, position. A good example is your inability to talk about Christianity without including your bogeyman Fidel.
