So my company recently sent around a tax form that we are required to fill out and return claiming what deductions we want on our 2007 return.

My question revolves around the dependent parent deduction. According to the following site: http://www.rd.go.th/publish/6045.0.html

30,000 baht is allowed per parent who is over 60 and earning less than 30,000 baht per year. My Thai wife's parents clearly qualify, and we send them money every month in support, so morally we fit the bill also.

So legally, can I, as a farang, claim this deduction on my taxes? My wife works also, but her income tax base is less than mine, so it is much more beneficial if I can deduct it on my return.

Anyone have any opinion how the revenue department would look at this?

Thanks.
