I visit Thailand regularly and since the "day counting process" started, now always get the correct single or double entry Tourist Visa in Australia before departure from here.......................... Works well and usually smiles all round.

I will again do this prior to my next trip in December.

But, for this next trip I only require less than 30 days "first up" as my Thai girlfriend and I will fly to Singapore early in January for a holiday there.

CAN I request from Immigration on this initial arrival that they give me a 30 day Entry Stamp and not process the Tourist Visa which will be in my passport, as I would like to use the actual Tourist Visa when we return from Singapore a couple of weeks later?

Thanks in anticipation.

If you don't write your visa number on your arrival card it could work.

A sure solution would be to get a re-entry permit before you go to Singapore. That will preserve your tourist visa 60 day allowance. I think it's 1000 baht.

funfun.........As an Australian citizen, like some other consulates Singapore may well ask why I did not get the Tourist Visa in my own country?

tropo..........I see where you're coming from re not putting the visa number on the arrival card, but I don't follow your second hint!

Economics comes into to this a little bit.

As I see it, if they require me first up to use my let's say double entry Tourist Visa, it will have cost me A$45 ( 1 entry ) for about a 25 day first stay.

Rather than if I can get a 30 day permit on my first arrival, I still have up my sleeve, two 60 day stays after Singapore.

I think tropo is meaning that if you use your visa on your first entry that you could go to immigration and get a re-entry permit. that way if you came in on say december 1, you would get 60 days. You could stay 25 of them, then go to Singapore for a week or whatever, come back to Thailand using the same entry on your visa, and continue your stay. You would be able to stay until the original date when you came into Thailand the first time. Whatever days you would be in Singapore would still count towards the 60 days, it does not stop the clock on the 60 days, just allows you to come in and out on the same visa.

Just one more ? on this topic:

Do I actually need to go to Bangkok Immigation to obtain this Re-entry Permit, or can it be done at one of the regional offices?

any of the immigration offices should be able to do this for you.
