In the 3rd year remembrance of the Tsunami catastrophe on December 26th this year, the Phang-Nga province plans to cordially invite HRH Princess Ubolratana to graciously preside over the ceremony. The Phang-Nga Governor Wichai Praisa-Ngob last week called a meeting with related officials to plan for the commemorative event. A religious and remembrance ceremony will be arranged at Bang Niang beach in Thakua Pa. An exhibition to remember Khun Phum Jensen, the son of Princess Ubolratana, will also be put up. 5,000 lanterns will be released up to the sky. The Phang-Nga authority expects a large number of both Thai and foreign families of victims to participate in the event.

The Thai government is organizing the 3rd year of Tsunami commemorative events on December 26th focusing on Phang-Nga. In the morning the memorial services will take place in Bang Niang near the main road where the police patrol boat was washed ashore and at a memorial site in the fishing village of Ban Namkem. Religious ceremonies will also take place. In the evening Princess Ubolratana will graciously preside over the commemorative ceremony at Chong Fah beach like last year. The Phang-Nga provincial authority is now working on the preparation for the event. The commemorative ceremony will be televised live nationwide by Television Channel 11. In Phuket the Provincial Administration Organization is holding a ‘Light up Patong’ event in commemoration of people who departed in the December 26th tragic incident.

The 3rd year commemorative event in Phuket will be arranged both at day and evening times. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand or TAT’s release, the remembrance session will be held at 10.00 – 10.35 am on Patong beach, along with religious ceremonies which Phuket Governor Niran Kalayanamit will lead. At the same time, around 10 to 12 midday, the Japanese Association in Phuket is arranging a ceremony at the memorial site near Kamala Beach Hotel. In the evening, the commemorative ceremony will take place from6pm at Loma or Dolphin Park on the beachside. The event to be arranged by the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation will have a one minute silence in respect of the victims, candle lights, and a Light Up Patong on the beach. The ceremony will be presided over by the Tourism and Sports Minister Suwit Yodmani.
