Hope someone can advise me with this one;

As I found out I couldn't get an extension or renewal of my one year Ed visa that finished in May 2007 from a neighbouring country to Thailand, despite being advised I could. Anyway, I am now on my second 60 day tourist visa but have a one week job back in UK starting sometime next week, which might work out well for getting a new one year visa, but probably not another education visa.

I would really appreciate any advice on what 1 year multi entry visa I would be able to apply for? Sorry if this sounds a bit samey as some other posts.

* I am in my 30's

* Not married, as yet.

* Not working in Thailand (at one point it looked like I was going to but it didn't happen, thanks to nasty farangs). :-(

* No reason for education visa, although I'll continue a Thai language course I started some time ago, but don't think the time left will cover me. The original education visa was for another reason.

* Have a Thai son, but not the required monthly income I understand one should have. Have some funds in UK bank account though.

* I work in an UK media company providing media content, have an option to provide Thai media content, but not sure if I can secure a media visa based on that. After reading another post, it looks like a lengthy process too, which I don't mind, but not good for short notice back to the UK I currently have.

I think the media visa option would be better for me but not sure as not too much details available.

The alternative I believe is a multi entry non immigrant O visa based on visiting g.friend/child, but would I only receive a 90 day single entry visa or a multi entry up to one year?

I could of course decline the offer of the short UK work and continue my stay here till December, but I'd then be questioning what then?

Reading other posts, Hull seems to be favoured for getting a new visa; however my nearest Thai Consulate is in Glasgow. Does anyone know if this makes much difference in securing a visa?

What is your advice on options available to me, documentation requirements and what to do next?

Thanks very much,

Tom. :o

Hi Tom, I'm from Edinburgh and went to the Thai Consulate in Glasgow to get info about a visa and was told that they don't issue Visa's and that no Thai consulate in the UK does and that I would have to go to London, needles to say that is absolute crap as I phoned Hull and they are happy to issue visa's so my advice is forget Glasgow and go to Hull.

Any consulate in UK should issue you with a Non Imm O multi entry for the reason to visit Thai child. Show the childs birth certificate naming you as the father. You dont need proof of income to get the visa.

That will give you unlimited entries to Thailand but each entry can be for 90days only but with 4 border runs you can get 15months from it.

You can apply via post to Hull if you wish and see documents required

No need to GO to Hull. Just download the visa application forms from the Hull website

http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com

and post application by Special Delivery. You will get your visa back in 2 or 3 days.

Hi TomBrown

I would agree with the above. I lived in London and it was simpler for me to do above, even though Embassy a bus ride away. I would also add that Hull were VERY helpful prior to posting application by clarifyong many pionts over the phone. If you really want it 'from the horses mouth' give em a call when you arrive back in the UK

Hi Mahout, thanks for the information and thanks to everyone who has replied.

Possibly better to ask the Thai Embassy, but I'll post here just in case you know;

Do you know if I have to show the original birth certificate or will a copy be okay?

If copy okay, do I need to get it checked/stamped at the British Embassy here in Thailand?

The birth certificate is of course in Thai, no English at all, do I need to get a certified translated version made?

By the way Brigante7; I got my previous multi Ed visa in May 06 from Glasgow, but I know the visa rules have changed since.

Thanks again everyone,

Tom.

From Hull you don't need to actually show anything. You can say "visiting friends" and they will chuck out a non imm "O" multi. If you really want, put a photocopy in. Better still, email them first.

As you say, ask them to be sure. I always used a copy of my marriage cert but carried the original

I would get a translation done while you are in Thailand and the translation company should stamp it with some sort of certification stamp, that should suffice. It'll only be a few baht and it is always useful to have a translation any way.

If a school has an approved course of Thai you should be able to renew your ED visa without any problems, for example if a school has a 3 year Thai program they will be able to help you to renew your visa for 3 years. Of course they will have to provide all the paperwork for you. Perhaps moving to another school would make sense if you still wanted to study Thai and obtain a new ED visa. There is not reason why you would not receive it with a proper paperwork from the new school.

That is actually a good point about having a certification stamped translated copy, I'll have to check for some place that can do that.

Thanks,

Tom.
