Yes.

You'll get a better rate from money-changers in Malaysia. If you have an international ATM card, or visa etc, you could just use an ATM in Malaysia.

Butterworth is a town with a population of over 100,000. It has a huge shopping mall. I would say they should have some ATM's there...and money changers.

I'm sorry Mart, although I've been to the shopping mall before (rode a motorcycle across the bridge from Georgetown) I've never taken the ferry. Don't give up though because I'm sure a lot of members on this forum take a train to Penang and use the ferry.

Perhaps you could start a new thread asking about the proximity of the ferry to the shopping mall. There's probably ATM's in other areas too.

Perhaps you can exchange some baht at the Malaysian border.

I want to get some malaysian money, can i go to any bank and get this?

About 6 months ago I took the ferry from Tak Bai to Khota Bahru,I paid with Baht as didn' have any Ringgits.

The Bus driver on the Malaysian side refused to accept Bahts, hadn't had with me some $$,I would have been stuck there.

In Khota Bahru I had to ask and find (not easy)a money changer near the Bus Station, the rate was very bad!

Next time I WILL remember to change in a Bank in Narathivat or HatJai :o .
