I need advice on what to do next.

Done 3 Visa runs to Ban Leam (Visa exempt)

10th Jul – 27th Aug = 79 days

One Tourist Visa in Savannakhet (60 day)

28th Aug - 26th Oct = 60 days

26th Oct - 25th Nov = 30 days

Is it ok for me to go for a visa exempt run to Ban Leam on the 25th Nov ?

Is the 90 days calculation based on 1st Oct or is it based 6 mths from 10th Jul

Thanks

This sums it up nicely, but how can you spend 79days in Thailand from 10th July to 27th August?

Visa Information (November 2007)

1. You are permitted to stay up to 90 days on visa exemption entries within a SIX MONTH PERIOD. Time spent on any kind of other visa (Tourist Visa or Non-Immigrant Visa) do not count towards the 90 days.

2. The first six month period has started from your first entry after 1 Oct. 2006, every entry counts.

3. After the 01 April 2007 the rule has been slightly adjusted , but you still cannot exceed the 90 days allowance within any six month period.

4. The 30 day stamp or visa exemption stamp is NOT a tourist visa as many think.

5. Examples for six month period:18.12.06 to 17.06.07, re-enter with visa exempt stamp on 18.06.07 or

3.5.07 to 2.11.07, re-enter with visa exempt stamp on 3.11.07.

Best way to overcome the six month period would be as follows. If your first entry has been the Airport, do 2 Visaruns in Ban Laem/Cambodia which gives you up to 90days(3x30days), after that do 2 Tourist Visa trips =2x60days and restart in Ban Laem a new six month period with 3consecutives Visaruns=90days(3x30days).

General Info and things to consider:

Apply for Extensions at the Immigration Main Office in Soi Suan Phlu, off Sathorn Road from Monday- Saturday or at the Immigration Office Groundfloor of Novotel next to Suvarnabhumi Airport from Monday – Friday only. Any extension costs THB 1,900.-.

A tourist visa will be extended for 30 days. A 30-day visa exempt stamp and any Non-Immigrant Visa will be extended for 7 days only.

You can convert the 30-day visa exempt stamp to a Non-Immigrant Visa by going to the Immigration with the proper documents and 21 day stay remaining, meaning you have up to 9 days time after your entry. Application fee THB 2000.-.

Please note that your passport needs to remain valid for at least another six months for any visa applications.

Further info: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/12/php

Most Thai Embassies/Consulates in SEA will issue only Single Entry Tourist Visas. Please be reminded to apply for a re-entry permit before you leave the country, otherwise your visa is void.

In case you hold a Non-Immigrant Visa with a Workpermit and you resign before the expiration date you must get immediate the Cancellation Slip WP10 from the Ministry of Labour. Afyer receipt of the Cancellation Slip please proceed without any further delay with the original and your Passport to the next Immigration office and they will cancel your current visa and give you a 7 day stamp. No charges. If this procedure is not completed within 7 days from the date you got the Cancellation Slip you are considered on Overstay, which can have severe consequences if caught. Overstay charges are THB 500.-/day or maximum is THB 20,000.-.

I'm assuming you've made a mistake and typed July 10 instead of June 10.

June 10 to Aug 27 is exactly 79 days.

I believe they use 180 days for their calculations because a 6-month period is meaningless as far as duration calculations go.

Using this assumption, 180 days forward from your date of first entry on June 10 is December 6. ie. June 10 - December 6 = 180 days.

In this period you are allowed a total of 90 visa-exempt days of which you've already used 79.

I would assume if you went for another visa run to Ban Laem on November 25 you will be given 11 days.

Depending of course on how long you intend to stay in Thailand, I would take Visarunner's advice and go for another tourist visa on November 25 because 2 back-to-back extended tourist visas equals exactly 180 days and will reset your allowance and allow for 3 more visa runs from February 2 when your 30 day extension will expire.

Thank you Tropo And Visarunner.

As I have already done 2 Tourist Visas from Savanakhet this year. Is Vientiane a possibility for me , that would make 3 Laos derived Thai Visas this same year. Is this allowed?

Tropo you are right, I made a mistake it should have been June 10th and not July 10th, thanks for pointing it out.

BTW, I am sorry for not introducing myself to everyone, I forgot my manners. I am Married, My wife was a former Thai, who gave up her citizenship when we got married. We now feel that it was a serious error, but we have to live with the inconvenience. She is allowed to stay on yearly extensions renewable, but I am left without recourse. I will have to wait till i am 55 yrs before I am allowed by by home country to withdraw my Pension funds. I am 54+ now. Than I will qualify by bringing 800,000 Baht.

Do you have any suggestions for me? I need all the advice I can get.

Thank you in advance.

Believe that there is a procedure to reclaim citizenship if that would be helpful. If you can show 800k in a bank account anywhere you might be able to obtain a multi entry non immigrant O visa from Singapore. Are you sure you can not, as spouse, obtain yearly extension of stay on the basis of your wife having them? If not and not able to obtain multi entry from Singapore perhaps a copy of her passport (showing the extensions) and a short letter in Thai would convince a Consulate to issue a non immigrant visa.

Thank you Lopburi,

I shall try your suggestion on applying for a "multi entry non immigrant O visa", With my wife's Passport copy showing her One year stamps, plus letter (in Thai). I have tried extending my Tourist visa past the 90 days , was successful once with a 60 day extension but we received a tongue lashing from the Immigration Officer in Window 5. We will try again when the TV extension 30 days is up. Dreading the thought of another long lecture from the Officer.

BTW is Vientiene available for my 3rd TV, I had done 2 previous in Savanakhet (Laos)

Thanks Lopburi , I apreciate your advice.

I do not believe Vientiane has started turning anyone back yet but this has been a bit of a honeymoon year there as they did not have a history of wanting to issue mutable tourist visas in the recent past. The extension of stay that you received was a special 60 day one time only to visit Thai wife so it appears Immigration is accepting your wife as Thai which opens the normal family one year extension of stay provision using 40k per month income. Also believe it would put you in good standing to obtain a multi entry non immigrant O visa from Penang or Singapore, using marriage certificate and copy of her passport/immigration extension of stay. You could try that in Vientiane also but probably only for a single entry.

Presario, I'm hearing more and more reports about people being issued 2-entry tourist visas out of Vientiane...and even from people with a passport full of visa history.

Make sure when you go there on November 25 you at least ask for a 2-entry. It will cost you an extra 1000 baht and give you a further 3 months.

PS. I just checked, Nov 25 is a Sunday, and I've heard reports that for some unknown reason they are more reluctant to issue 2-entry tourist visas on Monday. May I suggest that you apply on Thursday, 22 November.

Lopburi, thank you for your advice, i understand now that the 60 day (Visit Thai Wife allowance) has been used up and may not be issued again. I was hoping to get a short extension to tie me over till the 90 days from my 1st Visa Exempt Jun 10th which ends Dec 6th, which then qualifies me for another 3 Visa Exempt entries. Looks like there is no way for this to be accomplished. I may have to resort to the Visa at Vientiane, as it is the closest alternative for me. I thank you Sincerely.

Tropo, thank you for your assistance, I shall try your Nov 22nd suggestion for a visa in Vientiane, its closer and cheaper and who knows I may get lucky and get a 2 entry tourist visa, or else the Single will still be good. Thanks for all the help your suggestions, it has made life a little more manageable knowing what to do next.
