Thai And Egyptian Workers Brawl

Featured Replies

Labour ministry denies Thais killed in a brawl in Kuwait

A brawl between Thai and Egyptian construction workers in Kuwait last week that led to the deaths of two Thai workers was reportedly caused by drunken Thais urinating in an area reserved for Muslim prayers.

However, Labour Minister Apai Chandanachulaka said no Thai workers had been killed as a result of the brawl last Thursday night, but four had sustained slight injuries.

A worker's relative in Phichit, Yor, (not her real name) told The Nation Monday that her son-in-law, who is one of 1,000 Thai workers at the Kuwait site, often told her that the Thai and Egyptian workers did not get along well.

The Egyptian workers bullied the Thais by cutting into the queues for food and pushing to get on vehicles to work, she said.

Cutting into queues and pushing into vehicles in now considered "bullying?" I guess the Thai workers have never been to a 7-11 or tried boarding a bus a Bangkok.

There's plenty of Egyptians working all over the Gulf and in my opinion the majority are indeed loud mouthed <deleted> that consider the asians inferior to themselves so I believe the bullying part which probably goes beyond than what is described in the article.

No, bullying is when you cut into the line but don't have a smile on your face when you do it!

As I understand it the Thai's were also drinking. There are some things these folks need to know...it's not on to take a wee in the prayer room and drinking isn't the thing to do in that part of the world.

Quite a bit like going into a temple with your only a bathing suit on.

Make no mistake, there's plenty of blame to go around. We are dealing with poorly educated people from both countries, doing menial work, with few outlets for pent up frustration, aggression etc. The difference is, the Thai's are in a Muslim country and descration of a holy place gets folks quite upset.

I hope they get it resolved satisfactorily.

Agreed. This happens quite a lot on construction sites around the globe. Especially after drinking hooch.

I guess they ran up against another superior race. Lucky for them they weren't fined or imprisoned cause they weren't Arabs and on the wrong continent.
