LaoPo
Update: Today I had contact with the family of Jules Odekerken by means of email as well as telephone conversation. The family would like to express her gratitude for the input on this thread by all TV members. The Court, as you might remember, ordered the arrest of the suspect Anuphong Suthani since he didn't show up at the Courts' session last week, November 7th. The brother of Jules Odekerken's wife, Marisa, confessed to the murder and is still in custody. It appears that the suspect Anuphong Suthani is still free on bail. The bail however was set-and-paid at some 3 Million Baht (Euro 60.000 !) but the Court has confiscated 50% of that amount already because of the non-show-up. The Bail-amount was put up by high-so friends of Anuphong and they're now afraid they will lose the rest of the Bail money also if the suspect isn't arrested. So, hopefully it's just a matter of time. It is amazing and admirable that the family was able to come such a long way and fought so hard to try and have this case put back on the Thai Justice track, so to speak, because 2 years ago this whole murder trial was almost forgotten and 'dusted up'. They traveled already 7 times up and down to Thailand and, it's not over yet. Chapeau for the family but also Chapeau for the Dutch Foreign Affairs Ministry, Dutch Ambassador Mr. Pieter Marres, his staff, Members of the Dutch Parliament and many more. And last but not least Chapeau for the Thai Authorities and the only thing I am allowed to say is that many very important Thai people are involved, helping the family and doing their utmost that Justice will be done in this planned murder ! In the meantime Marisa, Jules' ex-wife, is still free and together with her -previous- 3 children, but now 4....She had another baby with her Thai Lawyer. That means she had 4 children with 4 different men. Only one of them from Jules. Anyway, according to the family it is/was not possible -yet- to bring Marisa to Justice in this case, apart from the 2 suspects this trial case is now about: Marisa's brother and lover Anuphong. It is too complicated to explain and the family asks to leave questions about 'Marisa' for the time being and not further speculate as what and when will happen to her in the future. But, it's not over or forgotten. I hope you will respect the wish of the family. If there's any further news I will update as soon as possible. sriracha john
Thanks for the update, LaoPo... please continue to do so as appropriate and please pass along our best wishes to the family. Surprising they only confiscated half the bail money for Anuphong's no-show at the trial, but hopefully the ones that put it up will have better luck in getting him to appear than the police have had in locating him. LaoPo
The spokesman of the family Odekerken, Mr. Bart Bakker took several photos of the suspect-on-the-run -Anuphong Suthani- during a Court hearing last year, November 7, 2006. He, as well as the family calls upon everybody in Thailand to look out for the suspect, maybe with the help of your friends, press or otherwise. Is there anybody who can tell from the name: Anuphong Suthani, where this name is from in Thailand* ? The family Odekerken has, again, expressed their thanks and utmost appreciation of all input in this thread by all posters in order to try and get Justice done ! Thanks SJ, that's exactly what everybody is hoping for. Personally I think it was, in a way, very clever of the Judge to have 'just' 50% confiscated instead of the 100 %. Think of it, it's better for the people who put up the Bail, to have 1 1/2 Million Baht back rather than nothing. If the suspect is caught and convicted they'll get nothing... These 'friends High-So guarantees' who put up the Bail for Anuphong Suthani - 3 Million Baht ! - are certainly not happy that they lost 50% of that money already and will, most likely, try to 'save' the rest of the Bails' money. There must be somebody out there who knows where he's hiding and wants his/their money back... Fingers crossed ! LaoPo

The Gentleman on the left is NOT the lawyer from Anuphong Suthani but the leading Lawyer in the team appointed by the Odekerken family. I have changed the description accordingly. I kindly request the Mods -if possible- to change the description in the original post, since I'm not able to do that anymore and also because it was a sensitive mistake as the description I wrote was translated from the original, in Dutch. LaoPo
UPDATE - Justice has been done after more than 4 years, since Mr. Jules Odekerken was brutally murdered in November 2003 - sentenced to death 1. Main suspect Anuphong Suthani* has been sentenced to death, today Friday December 21st, 2007 2. The 2nd suspect, brother of the wife of murdered Jules Odekerken was sentenced to life in prison, without possible parole (because he cooperated with the police) Sentencing Hearing at Pattaya Court House following Dutch Murder trial. On Friday Morning we were given rare access to the Courtrooms at the Pattaya Provincial Courthouse located on the Thappraya Road leading to Jomtien Beach. A trial which begun on 27th March 2004 has now come to a conclusion with the sentencing hearing. The case relates to the murder of Mr. Jules Odekerken from the Netherlands, who was killed in front of his Pattaya House on 17th November 2003. Mr. Odekerken was married, at the time, to Khun Marisa and the couple had two children, one of which was adopted by Mr. Odekerken. Two suspects emerged in the case, one was the brother of Khun Marisa and the other was her lover who fathered a child with Khun Marisa while she was married to Mr.Odekerken. The apparent motive behind the murder was related to Mr. Odekerken’s money and other assets. In the Courthouse, Khun Seksan, the brother of Mr. Odekerken’s Wife, was sentenced to life in prison without parole. His sentence was reduced because of his cooperation with the Police. The second suspect, Khun Anupong, a former City Councilor from Chumporn Province in the South of Thailand, was sentenced in his absence because he was bailed following the charges in 2004 and has been on the run ever since. He was sentenced to death for his part in the murder. Supporters of Mr. Odekerken were in court to hear the verdicts which were well received. Many spoke of a satisfactory conclusion to this long running case. From: Pattaya City News: http://www.pattayacitynews.net/news_21_12_50_3.htm The news was already on The Netherlands' television. * Anuphong Suthani is still on the run and hiding.... kat
I was so pleased to hear that justice was FINALLY done in this case. Notwithstanding the guy absconded on bail Then justice hasn't been done, has it? Without the guy behind bars and any real effort to secure his detainment, the sentence handed down is a charade. And why should they want to secure they guy? His runner just bequeath the Justice Ministry 150 Million baht, with a promise of more if he stays lost. Justice has not been done, only an illusion of justice has been served. It is incredibly shameful for the Kingdom.

I meant FINALLY, as I had understood that this happened in 2003 and the family had to wait until late 2007 until a sentence was FINALLY given. ALMOST 4 YEARS!!!!! How horrendous for the family and they still do not have full closure as the guy is still on the loose! Notwithstanding that at the Court date in November 207 with everybody present, EXCEPT the guy who had skipped bail , the Judge then revoked the bail and set another Court date in December 2007 when FINALLY the Death sentence was given. That is what I meant in my mind about Justice finally being done, but obviously it didn't come out as I intended! I agree with what you have said above above regarding it just being an illusion of justice being done, that is why I asked in an earlier post how actively the Police were in currently looking for this guy.... Unfortunately, I remain cynical... The Odekerken Family has done an immense job and never gave up. It was a long, tough and hard job and they even 'pushed' the Dutch Government/Embassy in their search for Justice. Please read their website. If they wouldn't have done so, I fear just the wife's brother would have ended up in jail. In fact that's the case until today since the main convict is still at large. The 'wife' is a completely different story and so far hard to prove she was involved; that's why they're looking hard for the main convict who was the wife's lover. All-in-all the case is far from over for the Odekerken family, unfortunately. LaoPo

Yes, the brother of Jules Odekerken's wife is in jail for life (he was 'in' for another murder previously but bought free...by his sister) 2. Yes; but he is one of the killers, next to the guy in #1 3. As far as I am aware of, yes; the wife's case is very complicated but not forgotten ! That's why they have to find #2 to 'confirm' that she was involved (also). 4. I am not sure. The brother got the death penalty but since he cooperated with the police it was changed into 'life imprisonment'. If they catch #2 (in fact the number one since he's the main convict and brain behind the murder, next to Jules' wife) the 'death penalty' will stand. Unfortunately, I remain cynical... Yes, Andiamo, I understand what you mean, and I'm sorry if I sounded critical of you; I'm not. What I am saying is that we as Westerners might be fooled by the Thai charade of justice, rather than the actual outcome. Even in spite of the hard work which I'm sure has been done by the Odekerken family, and what should be a clear-cut case, we still have: 1. One accomplice in jail for life (the wife's brother), who was already serving another murder rap anyway, bought free by Jules' money. So, no biggie that this nobody-murderer who already should have serving is in jail. 2 The Chumpon bigshot was convicted, but never really apprehended. He just put up a huge bail sum and fled. In the Thai justice system, this is akin to a defacto bribe of the Justice Ministry. Why do you think so many of them flee murder raps? Why aren't they secured, after so much experience with fleeing? Who reaps the money of the fled? Think about it. 3. <deleted>? The wife is out, and as long as her adulterous lover and father of her first son is missing, she walks???? What a frickin' carnival of justice. 4. Absolutely disgusting. We are no longer talking about just one more example of an educated, well-to-do man paired up with a thieving, lying, prostitute and her murderous family and petty, big-face, murdering lover, we are talking about the Thai justice system that sucks at the trough of these bottom-feeding life-forms. Beyond belief, in many ways! *added: The same lying, thieving, prostitute and cuckolding wife, who then went on to get knocked-up with another child from her Thai lawyer! This is really, truly, baffling beyond belief, even among the most jaded. Edited February 11, 2008 by kat

LaoPo
Update: Good and Bad news Wednesday, May 20th, 2009, late in the afternoon -Europe mainland time- I was informed by the Odekerken family spokesman, a brother of murdered businessman Jules Odekerken (46), that after a long time there was some good news to be told in this tragic and brutal murder on Nov. 17, 2003. It's now 5 1/2 years after the murder. See initial story here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Murder-Case-...ov-t151991.html This murder was initiated by Jules' Thai then-wife, Marisa Prommana, and which killing was executed by her brother Seksan Prommana -now in jail for life- and the wife's lover and most important brain behind the murder and factual killer, Anupong Sutthani, who was convicted and sentenced to death in 2004. Anupong Sutthani - convicted and sentenced to death small photo is after his arrest in 2003; larger photo is from 2004 during the trial in Pattaya (Marisa's brother Seksan was in jail for another murder but was released and "bought out" by his sister Marisa some time before the murder on Jules Odekerken) The reason for the murder on Jules was money, greed and hopefully possession of the villa Jules built for his family. Marisa Prommana, was finally arrested in her home village last week and put behind bars; a few days later she was transported to Pattaya jail, awaiting her trial later. This was good news for the Odekerken family as they felt very frustrated and disappointed that Marisa Prommana ''escaped'' jail after the murder, leaving just her brother "paying" for the murder, whilst the main sentenced murderer didn't report himself back to Pattaya court (previously he was released on bail), back in 2004 and is still hiding. It is admirably that the Odekerken family never ever let the case rest and did an almost impossible job following-up this case to ask for help and assistance in both Thailand and The Netherlands. They are grateful for the assistance they received from Dutch MP's and other members of the Governments in both countries as well as help from The Royal Thai Police. The bad news came a few hours later after I heard the news, above, from Jules' brother when I received a further message from a sister of Jules.... On Wednesday afternoon, May 20th, 2009, Thai time, the family was informed by her Thai lawyers that Marisa Prommana was released on bail by a Pattaya Judge just a few days after her arrest.... ...reason: she is a mother of children. Although she has to report herself at the Pattaya police station again early next week, the family was shocked to learn that this Judge released her on bail. As if a woman who initiated the murder on her own husband, also being the father and foster-parent of her two children, doesn't belong in jail just because she has children. Jules was a very gentle and kind man and adopted Marisa's first child, the second child was theirs and born in The Netherlands, Jan. 1998, where they also married in April 1997. The third child was fathered by fugitive killer Anupong Sutthani (Marisa pretending to Jules it was his child...) whilst the 4th child was fathered by a lawyer of Marisa who was defending her in the murder case of Jules Odekerken.... PS: The above information is just to show that the family never gave up in their battle for justice in the murdercase of their son and brother. Please refrain from commenting about Farang-Thai marriages or Thai women in general. This is a very tragic murder case and the family asks for consideration; eventual factual news you might hear or read in local newspapers about this case is more than welcome of course. This is an earlier message from the Jules Odekerken website: Update Jules (Odekerken) March 2009: On 21 December 2007, right now more than a year ago, Anupong Sutthani and Seksan Prommana were convicted for the murder of Jules. Seksan Prommana got a lifelong imprisonment and is now doing time. Anupong Sutthani was sentenced to death in his absence and is currently still on the run. During the whole previous year (2008) Jules’ family has not been idle and has repeatedly made clear to the Thai authorities that they will not rest until Anupong Sutthani has been traced and arrested. The family is pleased that they have the full support from the Dutch authorities in this. Notably Mr. Fred Teeven, Member of the Dutch Parliament, the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok have been very helpful. At the end of December 2008 the family travelled to Thailand in the company of Mr. Fred Teeven. In Bangkok they had meetings with Police-General Pansiri Prapawat of the Royal Thai Police and with the Attorney General of Thailand. With these meetings they wanted to renew the attention to Jules’ murder case and to the fact that his murderer is still at large. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Thai authorities. Jules’ brothers and sisters and Mr. Fred Teeven were most impressed by the very warm welcome at the Royal Thai Police headquarters. During this meeting Police-General Pansiri Prapawat assured the family that he and the Royal Thai Police will do all they can to trace Anupong Sutthani and to have him arrested. Police-General Pansiri Prapawat presented a thorough plan of approach to us and introduced us to the members of his criminal investigation team. The family has complete confidence that The Royal Thai Police will succeed in achieving their ends. GungaDin
The murderer still hasn't been found? Incredible!
neverdie
Yeah 5 years on the run after sentencing, what a joke. Has there been a reward offered for information leading to his arrest. Normally scum bags are the first to rat out their own, especially when a reward is offered. Terrible that this person is still roaming free. He should be executed within 14 days of being captured
