rice555
Hello All, the Reapers are way different in in how the bulb and flower, they keep popping out more, I would like to see some fruit! A lot of difference to the first post at the top of the page pictures of them. Where we are and some of the plants/fruit and one tom with double flower blossom's. Still behind as normal. Doesn't the ancho I'm holding look like it was spray painted? rice555
Fapington
Heya Rice, Do you apply wood vinegar religiously? I can't find a single leaf miner or anything in your pics! My toms are ate up with leaf miners, but since they don't really affect the plant to much, I don't really stress it. However, if you were to tell me that regular application prevents them, I would probably adjust my routine Edited January 6, 2015 by Fapington
rice555
Hello All, wood vinegar 2 times in the past 30 days, 200 to 1 mix. Chilies take great pic at night, but a little O-F and it's a phone, the CR's are amazing to watch grow. As per my double blossom tom's, at the Korat Ag Show today, they had some that must of got my plants gene's, the pic with a HUGE cluster didn't come out, it's about 4X bigger than this one. I've seen Jal's at the show before, but today it was like what I'm growing. Anaheim's, anchos and serrano's and a big selection of tom's. I'm going to go back Fri or Sat and have another look and ask questions, and see what seed they are using. rice555

JungleBiker
Without going through the last 10 pages of this topic (mainly because of my slow internet connection here in southern Laos), can anyone tell me where I might find expanded clay pellets/balls (for hydroponic use) in bulk packs (big sacks at wholesale prices, rather than small plastic bags at retail prices) in Thailand? Also the link to a Dutch greenhouse supplier in CM provided by rice555 on the first page does not appear to work http://www.dutch-greenery.com/ Who else is selling ready made walk-in greenhouses in Thailand? Thanks. JB.
Fapington
I bought my hydroton (3000 liters) from Aquaponics Thailand. http://aquaponics-thailand.myshopify.com/products/hydroton-clay-ball I know they also work closely with other suppliers, and could probably either provide you, or point you in the right direction for greenhouses. When I contacted Dutch Greenery about a green house, I could never get a quote, and ultimately just build a polycarbonate roof. Hope that helps.
rice555
Hello All, if you want greenhouse info go to Hortiasia2015 and look at the Co's that will be there, even from CN. If you can do a DIY, you can get bent up steel tubbing from tent and awning places all over LOS not sure about Laos. Film and netting and wiggle wire can be sourced through TCT, Thai Charoen Thongkarntor Co. Ltd., this place and another, plus greenhouse supplier in LOS can be found in Home Agriculture Magazine. This place advertizes GH's in the Mag, www.speedyaccess.co.th If you want a turn key project, call Netifim. These aren't hydro, but soil and drip tape water/fertilizer. The chili's by me a sweat, they got the seed OL from Turkey, the next plants LH are serranos. rice555

icetime
Was searching on Hydroponics around in Thailand and came across this wonderful forum: Came across some commercial study of hydroponics, but still wondering not much commercial adaption of it in Thailand accept by couple of companies like ACK and Bangsai. Also see lack of products and automated systems in Thailand like those available in Nedherlands, USA and Australia... Inspite of these, am seeing some wonderful work being done by Rice555 and others using local resources ... Would like insight in to commercial hydroponic viability in Thailand and if some successful technologies can be replicated here ...
rice555
Hello IT, Accent Hydroponics in BKK has been running an EC dosing system on their NTF system over 13 years, but they sell Accent products, Fresh Gardens off Suk sales the same I don't know much about the grower's in the CM/CR areas use, but I would think they are not flying by the seat of their pants like me. I mix up a tank of nutes and irrigate till M/T, then mix up a new batch over & over, only changing from grow to fruit. Still doing all my watering by hand, but now have a few timers to automate, but will be moving so not worth setting the system up. For auto pH/EC and complete auto GH systems, the upcoming HortiAsia2015 BKK is the place you can find it all in one spot, the show is listed on the pinned show thread at the top of the page. My new timers, the digital 2, have multi programs per socket, but I'm still looking for one I can program on my PC. Without going to a $$ Ag irrigation controller $$, and for the scale of my growing and dirt growing, the Blue Spray controller will do me fine. The last two pic's are part of the reason I signed up on TV after living here in LOS for 6 years, the great Roma thread, people couldn't grow Roma's, this ain't back home. rice555
icetime
Rice555 You certainly have a very impressive set up from what I have read on the forums ... I think it makes lot of sense to adapt to Thai situation and make cost effective production. How about more organized farming / technologies like: http://www.grodan.com/

Google Fresh Garden's in BBK Suk, the also on face book, the have small NTF systems that will keep you in salad, but you still will ned to buy Tom's & Bells. Also check u-tube for info on small systems and DYI setems, they should cover all the parts you need to run a system. rice555
rice555
Hello All, icetime, I hope you found some info on what you wanted, I'm only into eggs, toms and peppers, no greens, way out of my area of "very limited" knowledge. An update on my run to waste hydro. These are the same plant as in the post ou the page, coming along slowly with some BER in the paste tom's, and all toms seam to have a shit load of leaf miners. Will have my first indigo apple for dinner tonight, pink berkley tie-die's have a few almost ready. rice555

icetime
Thanks Rice, Your plants look great !! I love seeing big fruits, in fact greens are not my things too but thought would be easier to get started with. I am much more excited about Tom, Peppers etc. actually. But unfortunately live in Urban jungle in Bangkok. My balcony faces north so has sunlight only for couple of hours in the morning. That means will have to install HID lamps to grow tomatoes & peppers. To get started, would set up small propagation unit to start plants using fluorescent grow lights, and than replant them in Balcony. Needed tips on any particular model of ph meter, EC meter and timers to buy? Would i need a light meter to check light since i am growing in shaded balcony? Thanks. rice555
Hello All, thanks Fapington and icetime. icetime, if you are new to hydro and don't want to plop a bunch of $$$ down. forget the pH meter and get an aquarium pH test kit, under Bt.200., meter 2K+ and the tips can be a problem $$$. You can order a EC meter here: www.mechashop.com They also sell LED grow lights and have an English button that give a fair description and they do the regular Thai money purchases we all do here in LOS. The other option is E-Bay or Alia Baba and the 40 thieves, I have had some good dealing with both. Next month at Hortiasia2015 in BKK, Phillips Electrical is going to be there and should be showing whats new in LED's for growing, it's free and a short walk from a BTS station. There a lots of DYI hydro systems that would work in a small area, most of them shown on the net are under a topic we can't discuss on TV, but have the best options. ACK is where I first starting to get my nutes, and were the only place that had tom nutes, there maybe other's, I don't know, I mix mine as does Fapington, but that would fill up your kitchen. The Hydroton guy will also be at HA-2015, the place that supplied Fapington, and catch up on is Ponic Wars on U-Tube. rice555

Scoop1
Hi all, wowww Rice those toms are looking great you must be feeding them the right gear haha, , whats wIth BER, did they dry out? Cheers Scoop
rice555
Hello All, Scoop the plants never dried out, they up until 3 weeks ago only got about 4 hours of full sun, they still won't get full sun for another 3 weeks till the sun moves a little and the mango tree doesn't offer shade. It's only the one verity of Det Hyb paste tom, has not happened to the other OP Ind. toms, all the same nutes. They do have a critter problem eating them(caterpillar) and bird pecks. Some clusters were OK, some had 1-2 BER, some all 5+ fruit when the were in the size of a cherry tom and up till golfball size, when I saw them, I cut them off. Starting to get some color. rice555

rice555
Hello All, Scoop to confirm, this is BER? And the small has been chewed on by a caterpillar in the picked tom pic, the(2 pic) ones still on the truss are the same. Will be picking my first of this verity tomorrow. Mariana VFFNA Hybrid #5218 (30 seeds) Very large 5 to 8 oz. paste tomatoes have an elongated blocky shape and bright red color both inside and out. Their generous size and firm texture are great for salsa, canning, and turning into tomato sauce. Excellent disease resistance delivers high productivity and plants set fruit well even in hot weather. Determinate. 70 days. Some more of the Mariana's and Pink Berkley Tie-Die and Indigo Apple. rice555 And the TGS add pic for the Mariana Hyb.
rice555
Hello All, Scoop1 after looking at some of my serrano's pods, they also are suffering from BER, so I lowered my EC, flushed all my bags and started with lower EC nutes, my problem for not staying on top of things. Also picked 6 fruit that needed a day or two to be ripe and yesterday picked another 7 that need more time, but less chance of loosing more fruit. These were planted a month and a half after they should have been as things were chili oriented and the toms were an after thought. For what happened and all things aside, they taste good, but only one almost reaches the bottom of the TGS's add weight, I'm -10g under the 5 Oz., which means -110g what they could have been. They do grow OK in dirt to as the SIL took some plants to the farm. rice555
icetime
Rice Tomatoes looks great and am sure will taste good too.. You are loosing fruits to birds and pests so they aren't grown in a green house sort of thing or controlled environment? Productivity of hydroponic produce would be much higher than those of soil grown right?
rice555
Hello All, icetime I only rent where I'm at, and it makes it hard to do what I would like to do when we move to our house at the farm and can do what we want. Put up flash tape and have not had a bird problem since. My biggist problem growing big It. eggplants was big tails, squirrels, had to net each fruit, had to do the same for tom's one time as food was scarce and the hit the toms. The tom's are very tasty, even with the BER, still having more blossoms and and more fruit, maybe things will be different if it get Hot in the next day or two as we had a good rain Fri. and don't need the high humidity. Besides porking the pooch with me high EC and the Carolina Reapers didn't even have the strength to go tits up, here's my harvest from 17 plants! I gave the one on the R. to the fife as she ate lunch, after a few bites with a mouthful of noodles, she spat it all out, they must be hot. rice555
rice555
Hello All, my BER problem has seemed to have stopped, again, most of the toms with BER were my Hyb. paste tom, the OP Indigo Apple had a few and the PBT-Dye OP had 1 fruit. The PBT-Dye are good eating and can be beautiful looking. The first 4 pic's are over the past few days(bottom shots), the last of the 4 was last evening, my heavest so far. And a side shot. Some from 2/21. My helper and whats getting ready to pick. rice555
