Thai And British Passport

Recommended Posts

hi all

i wonder if anyone has the definitive answer.my wife has british and thai passports, but we are led to beleive that its not really allowed .the problem might be when she wants to go back to the uk next year, shows her thai passport and they say you dont have a gb visa, she then has to show her british passport, and then we would find out for sure of its allowed.

any ideas thanks in advance

Hundreds, if not thousands, have the same situation. You present your Thai and UK passports to the airline check-in staff and you exit normally using your Thai passport at the immigration counter. The airline checked you so you would not normally be checked again but there is no big deal about having a foreign passport - Thailand is the same as the US in that regard - they do not officially recognize dual nationality but they have not laws that prevent it. Just remember to use Thai passport for Thailand entry/exit and UK passport for UK entry/exit.

Believe for the UK there is another option if you want and that is a special resident type sticker (don't know what it is called) that you pay UK Embassy for and it proves you have right to enter UK. But it is an extra expense and most people don't bother in my understanding.

Showing two passports is the only option now. The sticker in your Thai passport to show that you have UK right of abode (known as a Certificate of Entitlement) has been discontinued. You now have to show your UK passport to enter and leave the UK, just as you are supposed to show your Thai passport at Thai immigration.

No problems showing two passports as described elsewhere.
