Receding Hairline

Does anyone know the Thai for this?

All I've heard before is 'hua terk', which I don't know if it's Thai or Isarn or how to spell it.

Lexitron says: ง่ามถ่อ [ngâam tòr] [N] "bald in the middle of a head" but Domnern-Sathienpong says for the same word, "receding hairline at the temples."

The Matichon Dictionary for "ง่ามถ่อ" says, "ลักษณะหัวเถิกเข้าไปเป็นสองแฉก"

หัวเถิก - balding; this is the hŭa tèrk which is the subject question.

แฉก [N] v-shaped projection; point of the star; serration (leaves); jagged edge

So the definition from Matichon might be translated as, "a balding pattern whereby [hair remains] in two areas of the head."

Interestingly, Lexitron's Thai definition for ง่ามถ่อ is ลักษณะหัวที่มีผมเถิกเข้าไป 2 แฉกเหมือนง่ามถ่อ. This is the same definition as Matichon. I can't find a separate definition for "bald spot."

Other terms for balding from Lexitron include:

หัวโกร๋น - to have thinning hair; to be balding.

หัวโล้น - skin-head, shaven head

and, of course, หัวล้าน, bald headed

คลังคำ has the word "หัวฉอก" which is defined in that book as, "ผมแหว่งเข้าไปจากหน้าผากเห็นเป็นง่าม"

แหว่ง [ADJ] indented; dented; nicked; chipped; incomplete

หน้าผาก [N] forehead; brow

So, this seems to mean, "where the hair is receeding from around the forehead which appears to be baldness."

Does anyone know how to say "bald spot"?

เภิก means "opened up" and also "with a receding hairline"

and in answer to your next question ,

ผมปลอม means "a wig" :o

the correct spelling is เถิก , and not เภิก.

and thanks to david houston for pointing that out to me.
