the godfather part 1 and 2 will for me always be the greatest bit of cinema for me, along with goodfellas, scarface, and casino but the sopranos has to be the greatest series ever - FACT!!!

the stories, the way it was shot, and the way David Chase made me/us sit on the edge of our seats for 10 years plus was truly remarkable.

pine barrens with chrissy and pauly running thru the woods was breathtaking. when tony killed ralphy then chrissy chopped his body up even more so.

pussys getting whacked, janice killing Richie Aprile. paulie being paulie. sil being sil. truly a masterpiece.

the reason for this thread is that i truly belive that in 20, 30, 40 years time the sopranos will be held in the same regard as the godfather etc...

add your best sopranos moments and enjoy!!!

It's funny to hear someone mention the pine barrens. I grew up in Newark. But spent a lot of time "down the shore".

Lived in the Pine Barrens Brick Town, Forked River on and off for some years.

Never really got into the Sopanos. Think they just reminded me too much of the "cavones" (low lifes) I was raised with.

However Goodfellas is probably my all time favorite mafia type movie and also reminds me of the way things were growing up.

When I was in BKK my sister in law always wanted to watch the GodFather. She always said she knows not to get Italian people angry, they will get even with you.

I told then we invented the word vendetta... :o

its also very relevant to whats happening in italy. i havent a clue about the cosa nostra to be honest, but i know for a fact that for the first the mafia, camorra and ndrangheta are looking at the states and thinking "i wouldnt mind a bit of that".

but on a different note what a show. mega!!!

I've never seen it but I'm tempted to download it, if it's available. So many people rate the series very highly.

I liked it quite a bit the first few seasons, but then it started getting too predicatable. When they began ending each season with the same cliff hanger regarding the FBI I knew the show ran out of steam. Definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet. If you can't download it, Pantip, Fortune Town, and most of the street vendors have the seasons on DVD, probably 3 dics per season.

Tony always reminded me of my next door girlfriend's father. I'm sure he would have liked to "plant" me.

The Italian mothers always loved me.

The Italian fathers always hated me.

Go figya'... :o

Classic series from HBO, I've just recently watched all 6 seasons from start to finish. I like the way Tony has to nail anything with a heart beat.

The cool one legged Russian maid/come house nurse who smokes out of the side of her mouth is a particularly cool garl. I like the way she rejected becoming Tony's Gooma due to the fact he was high maintenance.

Recently watched all Sopranos seasons in about a week or so.

One could say I was hooked.

I was quite impressed with the character Sylvio. Consiglieri apparently born without a neck who must compensate by constantly shifting his weight from one leg to the other while holding his arms away from his body with open palms.

And the faces he makes. :o

I hadn`t even recognized Steve Van Zandt in the role. (Played guitar with Springsteen)

Pauly was also great character you love to hate. I thought he would have been the first one to wear cement boots.

Not much of a series fan but this was excellent!

Like Tony Soprano, Tony Clifton also breathes noisily through his nostrils, especially when driving. :D

Without doubt the best piece of sustained TV drama ever made.

Now that it's all over I'm suffering from withdrawal.

I watched the early seasons in the UK on Channel 4 and the later ones on DVD in Thailand. The DVD ones were far more enjoyable due to the lack of commercial breaks, censoring, and the ability to make you own breaks for a pee etc :o .

(And for this slight hard of hearing oldie - the use of English subtitles was invaluable).

In a totally different genre, but also brilliant, is Boston Legal - the first 3 series are now out on DVD. James Spader has one best actor Emmy for 3 years in a row, and all the cast and story lines are riveting - and very funny.

Deadwood is also pretty good - great cast again - headed up by Ian McShane. It's not like any western you've ever seen. More like an outrageous and violent Victorian melodrama - which of course it is, but set in the lawless wild west. This programme won loads of Emmys too.

I am in the process of watching it for the fourth time in ten years and loving it once again.

Buffy the Vampire Killer is probably the second best long-running series and Oz - the prison drama - is great!

There's masses available as torrents, but I'll have to clear out my hard disk first. You can even get all 6 seasons in 30 gigabytes! :o

If you are suffering from Soprano withdrawal I suggest a HBO maintainence fix. Start with The Wire Season 1-3 and four will be out soon. Probably the best cop series ever. One story in 13 episodes, no heroes, no lucky breaks , no resolution at the end of each episode like the Shield. Just brilliant acting, believable characters and fantastic production values. Then watch Band of Brothers which is just as good.

Deadwood is worth a watch too.

As it happens I have seen the first season of the Sopranos but not any others so once my wife finishes the ridiculous rubbish that is Prison Break (recommended to me by someone who should be sleeping with the fishes for doing so) we will do the whole lot over the winter. What utter nonsense Prison Break is!!!

Great - thanks for the tip. I have missed out on this but everyone keeps telling me how great it is! I love it when you have got a series and you can just keep plugging them in the DVD one after another, no more interminable wait for "next week's episode!" COOL!

Absolutely!! It should've been a "one episode series". :o

Bullsh*t. I love the Supranos, but I really enjoy Prison Break and Lost too.

To each his own.

I watched a couple of "Losts" and didn't like it.

My daughter has highly recommended Prison Break so I've bought seasons 1 & 2. Not seen any yet - will report back :o

Suspend all thoughts of reality and Prison Break becomes entertaining. I enjoyed " Over There " recently. A fairly hard headed look at the Iraq debacle ( good looking kids being blown up for once ), funny how they only seem to have made one series............not.
