So my friend's mother has an upcoming birthday. I only got to meet her once and that was way back, which is why I can't remember her name :o . I'm so bad!

Anyway my friend, her son, is over seas and just as a courteous gesture, I thought I'd send her some flowers for her b-day with a note. The only thing I remember him saying was something about a purple flower, or something used on pastries, or that it was similar to anamanee (sp?), his sister, when i asked him what it meant.

Anyone have any possible idea as to what the name might be? He said it wasn't too common so I'm having trouble remembering. Any help appreciated.

Few comments.

1. I think not remembering a name, especially someone met only once is a common occurrence. In fact, if one remembers - that would be outstanding.

If you feel a need to send her things because you felt bad, I think that maybe unnecessary. I don't thing she felt bad that you didn't remember her name, as she should not expect to. Besides Thais don't normally make up by sending flowers for someone casual like this.

If this lady is the mother of someone you have a special interest on, then by all means.

2. pink flower - orchid?

As a side note, in Thailand when one buys flowers for people, make sure you know what you get. I remember once someone from the US asked an international florist to send flowers to someone in Thailand. The recipient wasn't thrilled when one kind of flowers in the bundle was used primarily for funerals.

3. anamanee is likely an-ya-ma-nee, which is jewel. This can mean any of the jewel.

Hope this helps.
