Singha Plunges Into Cheap-beer Market

More cheap alcohol to keep the natives from getting restless...? I don't think anyone important really gives a toss about road accidents of societal problems, as long as the majority are kept mollified with tv and booze.

So sad....so VERY sad. So Orwellian.

I'm so sorry for the wonderful Isaan ladies.

BAD news!

Low income targets?????

Isnt there enough misery caused by heavy drinking family members in Isaan?

What a way to "PROMOTE" isaan!

It showes clearly no respect att all to resolve the current Crisus regarding alcoholisme in Isaan.

Shame on all the Thai brewerys.

An alcoholic in Isaan does not need cheap beer. The whisky locally and illegally distilled there will always be a cheaper option then any legal alcoholic beverage.

Cheap beer is a good thing for responsible drinkers who can have their two-three beers a day without ruining themselves. For most people in Thailand 1 beer tin costs as 1 hour of salary ! No wonder they have to turn to cheaper and more unhealthy stuff ! I heartily support Singha initiative to make cheaper beer available.

'Archa Beer' wins Gold Medal in global competition

post-123-1196141868_thumb.jpg

Archa Beer, another quality product in the stable of Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (ThaiBev), won over more than 20 judges to claim the coveted Gold Medal in European Lager Division at the 2007 Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA), ThaiBev Director & Executive Vice President, Mr. Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi, said.

Mr. Thapana revealed that AIBA is the world’s second biggest beer competition that is globally recognized. This year, a record 941 beers were entered by 189 companies from 39 countries.

Several famous beer brewing countries in America and Europe each submit hundreds of beer at the AIBA competition, which has been in existence over the past 14 years. On April 19th, a panel of expert judges announced the names of the winners, including Gold Medal awardee, Thailand’s Archa Beer, which was cited for being “an outstanding beer that displays the correct balance of taste, aroma and appearance appropriate for the style and excellent technical merit”.

Mr. Thapana added that “the significant growth of Archa Beer over the past six months or so could now be explained by this AIBA Gold Medal award which attests to the beer’s excellent taste.”

“This year, Archa Beer was the only Thai beer to have received a Gold Medal. Back in 1998, Chang Classic was the first Thai beer to win this award, making Thai Beverage PLC the only Thai brewer to have won AIBA Gold Medals – not just one, but two medals for our two outstanding beers,” Mr. Thapana concluded.

Could it be that some of these beers aren't expected to be successful longterm? Every time someone sees or talks about Issan Beer the word Singh is heard. Couldn't this be what it is all about? There have been a lot of beers which have come and gone over time.

If the beer moves and does become popular enough, I suggest Singh figure out how to put a chili in the bottle without ruining the taste and when it has its beer gardens it should always offer customers glasses with a red glass chilli on the bottom. It worked for Tequila, it'll work here.

Makes you wonder what they put in those Archa and Chang bottles they send to the competitions. No way in hel_l its the same stuff they sell in 7/11s in Thailand

Another local favourite - Cheers Beer also won a Silver, as did Chang Draught. Both beating out Bronze medal winners such as Weihenstephan and Steinlager and also placing them at the same level as Becks and Kronenbourg 1664.

Cheers Beer is better than Steinlager. :o I'm convinced the world has gone mad. No more proof is needed.
