This time last year I was just finalising my gf's VAF1 form when UKVisas decided to issue a newer form. The same has again happened this year for my gf's settlement visa application. :o Thank you to Scouse for previously answering my questions about the VAF2 form but now I find that this was wasted as I now have to slave through the new VAF4 questions.

Although there are guidance notes provided for the VAF4 form, for certain questions it is not clear what the embassy requires. I would gratefully receive any advice concerning the following questions:

Qs 4.1 - 4.6 Is "partner" referring to a partner in the civil partnership sense. If so, I assume that my gf also being my fiancee should leave this section blank as she is not yet my spouse either

Q 6.2.9 I have always lived in the UK, therefore should I complete my date of birth here! (Surely for a significant number of applicants, their sponsor will have been born in the UK and therefore shouldn't advice be given accordingly in the guidance notes !!)

Q 6.2.10 Sponsor's permission to live in the UK - should I write Passport?

Q 6.2.11 When did you get this permission? Is this the issue date from my passport?

Q 6.4.12 Have you lived in a relationship like a marriage or civil partnership with your Sponsor?

There was a similar question on the old VAF2 form and I was advised to write Yes. However in the guidance notes, it advises to provide documentary evidence. My gf resided with me for 4 months earlier this year but do not have anything I think could be supplied as satisfactory evidence. Should I now answer No?

Many thanks

A 4.1-4.6 Part 4 are questions about her family of which you are not yet a part.(does she have an ex husband etc)

A 6.2.9 Date of Birth

A 6.2.10 'Birth right'

A 6.2.11 Put 'At birth' or your Date of Birth

A 6.4.12 As she visited you in UK and you lived together then declare it, they will know anyway

Thanks Mahout

I have also noticed that there is a section on the new VAF4 form for my gf to provide details about her current finances and employment (section 6.8), but the equivalent was not included in the old VAF2 form. This presents us a problem. Until a week ago my gf was working but this, like many of her previous jobs, was a short-term contract which has come to an end. She probably won't be seeking another job as, visa permitting (!), she is hoping to travel to the UK shortly.

Should she answer Q6.8.1 saying she is unemployed? If so, would her application be viewed unfavourably? If she does state she is unemployed, then I feel she should provide details of her past employment on the Additional Information page. What do you think?

To be honest, I am not sure why, for settlement applications, the UK authorities would be interested to know who the applicant's current employer is and the income they are receiving from this job as the applicant would need to give this up before coming to the UK to start a new life anyway.

Yes, it is best to do this.

If so, would her application be viewed unfavourably?

She is applying for settlement, so shouldn't be an issue.

If she does state she is unemployed, then I feel she should provide details of her past employment on the Additional Information page. What do you think?

It wont do any harm, but pretty much irrelevant, depending on the work described.

That's right, pretty much irrelevant.

Good Luck
