Punks On Silom

Recommended Posts

Telling them you want to buy 30, and that you will wait for them right 'here', is always alot of fun.

The next evening is usually not so much fun, but I seriously doubt they have the time or energy to care about getting revenge on you for shaking your umbrella at them.

Besides, next time you might feel 'alom'.

Basic phsycology -" I'm not afraid", usually means you ARE, basic karma - give agression < it comes. The funny thing with life is that is seems to be a certain kind of person that seem to attracts trouble - Isn't it just easier to smile say no thankyou and be patient until the guy unlatches from your arm?? Works 4 me, never seem to get any problems. You seem to have a very agressive demenour, something that'll give one problems in any part of the worl', but carry that tough guy shit around for too long in this part of the worl' espescially - your gonna wind up getting hurt . I'm not araid of 3 or 4 of 'em, was it? I'd be very afraid if I were you. :o

I live on Silom Road and see these clowns everyday. just say no and keep walking. Its not really that bad.

No matter how big or bad you think you are, better off walking away, no way are you going to kick any Thai's ass, they are some mean MF's. Just smile and keep walking.

Was in pantip today and the dvd thugs were out in full force. Normally I just walk past them and maybe say "mai ow" if they persist. There was one who followed me for about 10 meters and said " i know you want to buy". So now they are reading our minds? What next?

I agee in principle with siamsam that its beter to smile and say "no thankyou" but sometimes thats not so easy to do.

Analize this. I am shit scared of spiders. Basic Phsycology - I am not scared of spiders???

But I am scared of the horrible hairy fukcing things. Really.

Or does it only work one way. So basically everyone is frightened of everything??? And nobody is unafraid of anything.

Ohwhee <deleted> me, I've given myself a headache. :D

Gosh, you're right! I should let anyone who wants to latch on hard to my arm just keep me there and waste my time no matter what else I have to do, even when I've already told them I'm not interested- yup, I'm aggressive, all right! Well, next time I'll do things the Falong way and buy the one with the giraffe.... :D

More seriously, I think I pointed out that this usually does NOT happen and the guy was acting more than unusually pushy and weird- perhaps, as I said, amphetamine withdrawal. I've been by the same area a few more times recently and haven't seen the same one around (not that I would have wanted to). Perhaps someone's told him to chill out? Dunno. I'm not the tough guy type (I just like to shake my brolly! :D )

OT, but another of my 'claim-to-fames' is that I have the largest collection of disguised firearms in the UK!! So if you are after a brolly that shoots bullets, or a walking stick that can 'blow' away these hustlers, then just give me the nod!! :D

Err.....I thought guns were illegal in England? :D

I'm sure that Interpol and M16 would be quite interested in your collection also! :D

Hmm...A "Brolly" that shoots bullets! Too bad that stuff is illegal here in the Big Apple, or I'd take you up on your offer! :o

What part of Silom are you talking about? Near Din Daeng Skyway station?

I find the tourists more of a problem than Thai touts. Walking slowly, stopping suddenly, blocking the pavement. Let's join the TRT plan to get rid of tourists that want to buy goods for their money - just have the package tours that are bussed from hotel to hotel and to specific stores / venues that give the tour operators a back-hander.

Sorry to say , but this is a myth , granted there are some hard Thais , but they are no harder than the average European/African etc.

With this attitude ( being scared shitless ) you will more than likely be seen as a potential victim/easy target.

Absolutley true in any country.

I think the fear factor is that every Thai man woman and soi dog within sight will jump on your back regardless of who started it.

One on one just aint gonna happen. :o

I was not implying that I am scared shitless of the Thais, I just think its always easier to try and walk away from trouble, especially if you are a guest in their country. To me fighting is senseless, who the ###### really cares who is king of the hill. Just better off walking away. No matter how big and bad one is, their is someone some where who is badder, As one gets older one should be getting wiser.

I have been robbed twice in my travels, had a gold chain ripped off my neck in Costa Rica, my fault, should have know better than to be wearing jewelery. I was with my brother in law when it happened in market, 3 young kids grabbed the chain and took off. My brother in law said aren't you going to chase them, I said why, what am i going to do if I catch them. Better to let them have the gold, than and getting killed over 400$ of gold.

Other time in Rio, kid pulled a knife and demaned my money, said no, so we danced around awhile with him swinging the knife and demanding my money, with a crowd watching, just human nature sometimes, people don't want to get involved. This one was stupied on my part, to this day still don't know why I didn't give him some money. But ended up well, -he didn't get any money and I didn't get kinifed of killed.

These two instances still have not dulled my desire for travel and experienceing different cultures. Just try and learn from these experiences. Some lessons in life can be real expensive. but thats what makes life so interesting.

I get pissed here with the Thai's riding their motercycles on the sidewalks, I live on Silom Road, and it a madhouse from 4 to 6, seems like there are more motorcyles on the sidewalks than on the road. Just have to grit my teeth and mumble under my breath. As I said before its their country, so I just have to deal with it.

I agree with chonabot.

man on man most thai's don't stand a chance. Pack mentality kicks in for them and then they will gang up on you.If you kick their butt then they lose the so-called FACE and then they want to shoot or stab you.

better off avoiding any confrontations.

This part is classically shown in that Thai movie "Last Life in the Universe".... Which I just saw tonight here in NYC.

I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but if you If you have, you know what scene I'm talking about! :o

Interesting dilemma...

I was at O'reilley's last night and coming/going had 2 guys asking me to buy these dvd's.

More like a 'psst, mister, you wan sex dvd?' and no arm grabbing etc.

Just walk away as is the prevailing opinion.

I have an idea (if this turns into an epidemic;) I'll print up loads of T-shirts saying (in thai/english)' I don't want any sex dvd's thanks'. Then, of course I'll have to sell them...hmmm, I know! I'll hire a small army of thai guys on silom to do it....yeah, that's it... :o

Same anywhere I've been. If you look like you're confortable in the area then people think twice before trying it on. I've never been set-upon in London over many-a-year and I've frequented some dodgy areas.

Thais are no meaner than anyone else and Anglo-Saxon people have the advantage of size and strength (plus a furious anger even the ancient Romans noted).
