PM Says Not Ready To Receive Myanmar Leaders

Featured Replies

PM says not ready to receive Myanmar leaders as he must prepare for HM the King’s birthday anniversary ceremony

In response to the planned visit of Myanmmar's junta chief Than Shwe to Thailand, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior General Surayud Chulanont said that he will be too occupied with the upcoming general election as well as preparing for events to celebrate His Majesty the King's 80th birthday anniversary . Gen Surayud further added that Gen Than Shwe's visit was routine and part of the Myanmar leader’s newly acquired position.

General Surayud has asked that the Myanmar leader move his visit until after the New Year or election. At the moment no set plans have been made concerning the time frame for Gen Than Shwe's visit.

The Prime Minister stated that Thailand’s stance on the Myanmar issue is still as was agreed on during the ASEAN summit in which time will be given to Myanmar to deal with its own internal affairs.

Taoism: shit happens

Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit

Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah

Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

Aka, they don't care about the suffering of the Burmese people at all.

Pathetic, as expected.

Lets hope that junta visit is well past new years like 2025. They need to understand the consequence of their actions are not acceptable in any way form or fashion. They are totally self serving at the expense of the people of Burma.

I think for Asean in general it is a mattrer of people living in glass houses...

That aside I am sure there would be those that like things just as they are.

Maybe it's a tactful snub? (But then again, would one junta snub another because of Human Rights?!!)

I thought the story read they were coming to see the PM and not the military.

"...I am sure there would be those that like things just as they are."

And the big 'those' are the Chinese Government.

China needs what it is getting from Burma, and doesn't want its boat rocked.

They have learnt from the USA the 'realistic' way to regard those in control in the parts of their sphere of influence: "Sure, they are bastards. But the point is that they are OUR bastards!!".

If China runs its economy crash bang into the buffers (as it may well do) and then can't bankroll the junta, that may be the time when some change for the better may occur for the Burmese body politic. But hold not thine breaths.

This is at least a face-saving deferrment of any visit by the Burmese military dictator. The new government can be left to make up their own excuses.

same same, no?

No !

I don't see them as the same.

Agreed ! Thailand is scheduling an election next month, while Burma ... :o

there is really nothing (special) to say:

Junta in Burma - Junta in Thailand.

Was n´t better before: Thaksin buying his votes and be the biggest profiteer of his government.

And the people of Burma still suffering ....

And "communist" China: Give good reasons for western capitalists to cut the wages of the workers:

"Sorry, we have to compete with cheap Chinese workers "

If the biggest US -capitalists would n´t allow communist China to trade outside their country (outside China), China would never be able to led their economy grow like it does !!!

All this laments: "What can we do? It´s globalisation"

Bullshit !!

Who makes the biggest profit with high oil-prizes? You answer...

(Tip: who give most money for election of the present president of US o.A ?)

Or just look at the profit the biggest companies in the US make the last years

and look at the wages of US workers, how they develop in the last 20 years ...(or European workers)
