Why not asking why so many foreigners get married with a prostitute? The story the op tell i have never experienced.I been to some weddings in Thailand and everyone was happy and had a great time.Dont think that every former prostitute is bad girls. -

Because so many of their customers are mugs who don't seem to mind marrying a prostitute. I've experienced the situation you've described myself - in many cases it's painfully obvious what the wife's "background" is. Sometimes her bar girl English gives it away immediately, in other cases the truth comes out once she's drunk or throws a fit. Embarrassing. -

Now starting: Chiang Mai Expats Dining Group
That's starting to sound interesting. I'm seeing dark rooms with comfortable leather chairs, wood decor, whiskey and cigars though, not Thai restaurants. There are bistro's with darker decor and industrial design in town. Maybe that's preferable to a meal oriented group. Meals remind me of toastmaster's or AA. I can give one named Iron32 Bar & Bistro near the Iron Bridge as a great male group spot you can check out. -

Short Time: Dream or Dilemma?
Short time is one of the greatest ideas in the history of mankind and works on so many levels, for so many men. Granted, if you do want that emotional connection then a relationship is probably the answer. It also has to do with your financial status, I think it's safe to say that any relationship here in Thailand is going to cost upwards of $1,000 a month, if you take into account all the expenses associated with having a woman, taking care of that woman, health, cosmetics, food, clothes, travel, etc. etc. So, only guys with extra pocket change can even consider it. I know a lot of guys who have limited budgets and they find that short time works really well for them, even though they do hunger for some kind of connection from time to time. I also know guys who have very fulfilling relationships but they've been with the same woman for a long time, and at a certain point in time the sex gets pretty dull, so they still engage in very discreet short time, and it seems to be a pretty ideal formula for the right guy. It doesn't work for guys that are hampered by unnecessary emotions like guilt.
