Registration At Local Amphur

What is the fee to register a marriage at the amphur? That is to say, when you turn up at the local amphur (register office) to register, plight your troth, hand over the necessary documents of passport, affirmation of freedom to marry, and Thai id card, how much must you then stump up for such registration?

I didn't have to pay anything, that said though.. we did give the guy who did it a couple of hundred baht for lunch (which was offered, not requested)

If you do at office there is no official fee - if you have to do outside there is a small fee/transportation charge. If you use local office officials as witness it is normal to pay for there lunch.

Thanks for the replies. Was informed by one MCT Translation Service Limited (one of the many under the flyover) that that fee alone would be 5,000 baht. Smelled a rat when I was also informed I would have to have my passport translated (!?), together with more documentation (unspecified) from the embassy. A couple of farang were in the shop at the same time and had already agreed on a 9K baht fee for just the Affirmation translation and marriage registration.

Would advise anyone to avoid this particular outfit like the plague and do the rounds.

I'm a cheap charley,married 5 years ago at the Supermarket,paid nothing,photos free of charge(with traditional Thai attire,free too) and a bag of presents.Food, pillows, toys.My wife GOOD advice.

Two years ago the fee was 20THB to register a marriage at the local Amphur Office. Preparation of documents, MFA fee and fees for translator about 3000THB. In my case the translator was free.

In and out of the office in less than an 1 hour. Next day my wife obtained her new ID card.

There is no requirement for you to have your passport translated, there is a fee of 800THB at the MFA and the statutory declaration which you must obtain yourself from your Embassy which states you are free to marry your embassy will charge you a fee for this service.

Translation fees should cost no more then 3-4000THB dependant on the number of documents to be translated.

They told me that MFA do not do same day service for marriage registration and if they do it would take 3 hours.

UTTER B.S. I was in and out within 1 1/2 hours, just enough time to hand over papers and have a meal in the cafe on-site. They (and others) make a living out of gullible ferangs who should know better

No fee for actual registration at the amphur, but you must pay 40bt for 2 copies of the marriage certificate
