:o The real problem with Asia Web Direct, is that I've been stolen by them: they took my money but I have not room.

I hope now it is clear for everybody.

What are you talking about? Evidence? Did you really need to start another thread?

Your new post makes the situation anything but clear.

can you explain a little more bojefr?

if you booked over the peak period, you may find that the hotel is over booked. this is in no way AWD's fault. they sell rooms based on what the hotels allocate to them. if the room is double booked, that is the hotels problem.

AWD is actually a good reputable company in my opinion, coming from someone who works in the hotel industry.

the way they work is this:

the hotel has a contract with them. they give 'allocations' of a certain number of rooms for a certain price.

as the rooms are sold, the room allocation with AWD decreases, but sometimes the hotels forget to decrease in their own stock.

some hotels deliberately over book during peak periods to compensate for late cancellations and no shows.

at the moment, some of the hotels in Patong are over booked as follows:

a 50 room hotel is 20 rooms over for the whole of peak season.

a 70 room hotel is 30 rooms over for 10 days of the peak season.

a 120 room hotel (in karon) is 100(!) over for a large chunk of peak season.

all of these over bookings are the fault of the hotel, not AWD.

Un fricken beleivable Donna , so can you please explain what happends to customers , once they show up to no room available. i know, that incase it happends withan airline , there are legal responcibilities, in which case the passenger either flies on another airline, or gets compensated nicely, or both .. But fact is ; passenger still gets, where he wants to eventually (on airline's expence) .. How exactly would it work with hotels in question ? Thanks

the hotel is legally bound to find a room of equal or higher value for the inconvenienced guest. most hotels have agreements with other similar hotels in the area who will accommodate these guests for the over booked period.

during peak season, it is very difficult for any hotel to find accommodation for the over booked guests, but as they know so far in advance, they should be able to do it.

i was petrified that i would be over booked during this period, and only ever had two over bookings. its a very embarrassing situation to be in and one that did cause me to lose sleep. to be one or two over is quite easy to fix, but to be 20 or more over is not a situation i would like to be in.

be aware that many of the larger hotels run their reservations at 110-120% during the high and peak periods.

I'll second what Donna said. The one and only time I went to Phuket, I booked at the Best Western Bang Tao Beach.

When I arrived, they told me they were overbooked and planned to move us to their sister hotel.

The trouble is, I had made the booking, as an agent, for my family and my friend's family, who were NOT being moved to the other hotel.

Needless to say I raised all hel_l until they found me space at the original hotel - and I vowed I would never go back again.

I can understand a hotel overbooking to about 5% if they are large, or maybe 10% if they are small - but not to the point where they don't have any higher-class rooms available either. Under NO circumstances should a guest be required to move to a different hotel without additional compensation.

It's a very easy decision for me as an agent - if I hear of an overbooking from a guest which was not satisfactorily resolved, the hotel in question is removed from my lists permanently unless the hotel makes the effort to call me and explain what happened. I won't be calling them to tell them I've removed them, as they have not called me to tell me they have overbooked and allowed me to try and resolve the situation with the customer in advance.

I wrote this already in the other post - OP - decides to open a new thread....no explanations either - smells kind a fishy to me - discredit AWD?

AWD have always been a good agent to me and i have no hesitation in using them.

just as long as we remember that its the HOTEL who over books, not the agent. the agent is left to clear up the mess and is usually blamed for the hotels error.
