I was lining up to do a 7-day extension of my permission to stay on a non-O visa because the flights I wanted were full (thanks, lopburi3, for previous advice), but I've just had waiting-list confirmation on a flight the day after my permission to stay expires.

If I've understood right a 1-day overstay doesn't get a fine, but does it still get an overstay stamp in the passport?

Does anyone know/have experience?

If it does, I'll go ahead and do the extension - it may be worth B1900 sometime in the future not to have a red stamp.

Thanks, folks.

Although believe some have not received the stamp others have reported getting it. The red stamps seem to have made a difference in some recent applications at Penang; although in the past they have been rather benign.

I overstayed one day on one occasion and there was no fine and no stamp but his was fifteen years back. Personally, as lopburi3 intimates, I'd get the extension and avoid any chance of a nasty little stamp. Thai immigration are not known for their consistency and if the money and time are no real issue then it's worth it.

I've had 2 x 1-day overstays over the last 2 years. For the first one in May last year received a purple ink stamp, but no stamp in May this year.

Considering that you get your 1 day overstay for free, I wouldn't be running down to the Immigration office to pay 1,900. Some people worry more than others, each to their own.

I still got a tourist visa in Penang even with 2 overstays.
