10 people injured after car hit polling booth

BANGKOK: -- Ten people, including an official manning a polling booth in Lard Prao district, are injured early today after a brand new car accidentally slammed and damaged the booth.

Lard Prao district officer,Mr. Bundit Vinijchaikul said the accident occurred at about 8.30 a.m., half-an-hour after the polling booth has been opened for eligible voters to cast votes on a Bangkok governor, when the red registration plate Toyota car, driven by a woman, hit the booth from behind as the driver was trying to park her car.

Mr.Bundit said he believed that the woman just learned how to drive and went into a wrong gear at the time when the accident occurred.

Nine people who were at the booth and an official were injured.

Part of the booth collapsed after the accident and a new one has been installed immediately.
