My neighbor's looking for a sand blasting business or some sort of heavy duty paint removal people in Chiang Rai.

Hi

Can't speak about Chiang Rai but in a few weeks time a very large facility (can take several truck chassis etc) will be opened by an Aussie on an industrial estate near Lamphun.

PM me for more if need be.

Thanks mate, not sure if he wants to go to Lamphun. It's a lot of fence railing and is probably best done on site.

Seems like I've seen cheap portable sand blast thingies for sale at the small hardware store on the corner nearest the Bangkok Bank branch that is just up from the new clock tower. Also you might ask at the small hardware store that is about a half a block west of there on the other side of the street by the walking path that goes into the market. Then just buy some blasting sand (where?) and borrow a compressor.

Maybe it was another store...can't remember for sure exactly where.

When people refer to sand blasting they are usually refering to grit blasting - which is using copper slag. If sand is used it is silica free sand. However sand would/should not be used for blasting metals (steel, iron etc) as the profile of the substrate after blasting will be to small and adhesion of subsequent coatings will be <deleted>!

I don't really think it's a home handyman thing, I'll agree they don't use sand any more but an array of grit type materials including glass beads.

Glass beads are expensive and usually used on stainless substrates where an angular profile is undesirable due to the risk of stress corrosion craking. I agree it is not a do it yourself job - better left to geordie bears!
