I'm sure everybody is curious what you were doing with such a load of cash running around every week.

Nowadays however it's hardly possible to get 500 notes (or even 200 notes) as the EU banks aren't handing them out anymore.

http://mineco.fgov.be/euro_archives/euro_b...anknotes_en.htm ..............................Have a good look, you might never see a 200 or 500 note again in real life..........they're almost antique and hard to get... :o

What you mean like 15 EUR 1000 Notes ??

Can fit in your wallet..

the highest denomination is €UR 500 and if the notes are new they will fit in an oversized wallet. oversized not because the bundle is thick but because of the stupid wide size of the notes.

one of my friends brought to Pattaya a couple of weeks ago €500 notes. he could get them from his german bank without any problems. when i told him he might have problems at some money changers as they won't know what a 500er looks he was making fun of me. and indeed he proved that he could change them without any problems.

I see; it's indeed possible to get 500 notes if you insist of getting them at a bank but in normal 'paying cash' transactions the 500 (and 200) notes are hardly in use anymore.

Just with 2nd hand car dealers and people who are involved in 'other than normal' transactions.... :D

In most EU countries shops, gasoline stations etc. will not accept 200/500 notes although in Spain they are still in use here and there, so I'm told by my brother... :o

But, of course Banks HAVE TO accept the 200/500 notes since they are official and guaranteed money notes. The point/problem is if you come in with too much money -over 25K € - they have to report you. (but I'm not sure if that's the same in all EU countries)

wow i would not want to get taken into one of those back rooms with 20,000 USD in cash.

--------------------------

The "back rooms' that I have been to in BKK were provided security by none other than Thai police.

Phone call first then escort to and from the car and and on one occasion back to the house.

I guess one of the benefits of your wife's uncle being chief of police in one of the "berbs."

D&C fees Pepe ? :D

in Germany the amount was recently reduced from € 15,000 to € 10,000. banks are only allowed not to issue the special report form when it concerns known clients (e.g. shop owners) who deposit high amounts of cash on a daily basis. withdrawing cash however does not invoke any report.

there is a similar law in Malaysia that will take effect on Monday, December 17. the limit is 23,000 USD.

I was running the British and Irish construction gangs throughout Holland and Germany (well Ireland, Norway, France, Belgium, UK, etc at various times too)..

Highly transient gangs of labour, cash on the nail paypackets, for highly paid men working 60+ hours a week..

Employed >1000 men a year, to keep about 400 working.. Proper little empire for a guy in his 20's :o !! Good fun at the time even if it nearly killed me.
