I married my wife at the Thai Embassy in the UAE in 2000. The marriage certificate is in English and in Thai and has been sufficient to obtain (along with other required documents) successive one year, multi - entry, non - imm. 'O' visas based on marriage to a Thai from consulates/embassies in Penang, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Our marriage was never registered at the local amphur near our home in Thailand. We were recently able to register a usufruct agreement at the local land office without our marriage being locally registered.

What are the benefits of registering our marriage at the local amphur? I will soon apply for a Thai driving license, a yellow tabien baan book and will eventually apply to extend my current non - imm. 'O' with immigration in Thailand. Is my marriage certificate that was issued by the Thai government outside of Thailand sufficient proof of marriage to those wanting to know inside of Thailand?
