Thailand And Cambodia Have Agreed To Allow Tourists To Enter On A Single Visa

Featured Replies

I read the link and I am still confused.

Question: Does it mean that when I arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport from Australia and I get my 30 day Visa on Arrival stamp that I can travel to Cambodia as well - and not have to pay for a Cambodian visa at the Thai/Cambodia border?

Question: When does it start?

Peter

I heard this on the news this morning....-in essence it sounds great......for tourists.

BUT....

when does it start?

How will this effect Visa runners....I can see it getting very complicated with different lengths of stay permitted and re-entry regs. I can see there will be a myriad loopholes for the long=stay merchants...I can't see the 3 trips and out rule lasting .....

OR

Will these visas only be available in ones home country?...will you be able to go to the Thhai Cambodian border and get one?

What about the $20 fee in Cambodia? will they just let you in on a visa from either country or will there be a special one?

Will it ever happen?

Will it last?

Can you see Burmah taking part in this??? - Laos maybe but Burma?

I doubt it. Cambodia has no visa free entry for most people. IMHO it will not happen.

the news infers its a done deal and operating from now!

Pinch-o'salt required??

This Schengen type visa has been talked about for years for this region. Can you imagine all the countries involved sharing their 'black lists' with one another. No way. I don't think the idea has any legs at all. Thailand alone has a substantial world- wide Embassy/Consulate network.

A large boulder is required.

Read some of the "fine print" in the other thread. :o

So can enter Cambodia with a Thai visa and return to Thailand again. Is this a clever way for Thailand to further pinch visa runners, by eliminating Cambodia as a visa run source. If SEA goes the Shengin route it certainly bodes ill for all the visa runners.

That'd be the only logical way to contain the runs, and to see why they might do it. The other Government rumour is that they may go back to the old 15 day permit on arrival and do away with the 30 day model.

eliminating the current 30 day voa and replacing it with the old 15 day model would make sense for the Thai gov't to control their visa runner problems rather than the complicated current regs.

would assume that longer stay visa would still be available from Thai embassies and consulates abroad to accomodate legitimate tourists who would like to visit for longer than 15 days.

Possible reciprocity problems though? with foreign gov'ts
