Hi all,

I have searched the forum but haven't found the answers to my needs. So any help is much appreciated. I (american)am getting married next month to a Thai lady. I am under a limited time frame to do things in Bangok(and think it may take a couple days to do the paperwork?), we are living in Phuket and plan on wedding down south.....and I wonder about the following:

I know as a divorced foreigner...I first get the "Declaration of eligibility" from my embassy...taking with me the original divorce decree from america. Get all docs translated to Thai. Then to Ministry of consular affairs for his signature which shoud then give me permission to marry at any amphur in Thailand...correct?

It would be great if I can do this solo without my fiancee as she has work obligations in Phuket...and I don't see anywhere that she needs to go with me? Am I right? She has never been married...and from what I can gather her paperwork is ID card, house reg papers and that is it??? Thanks in advance for all/any advice...td

egg,

Hey thanks for the quick reply...I have a thai embassy.com web site but the information is a bit cloudy on my question of her presence to get the paper work. Anyway, thanks. If she has to go she will but her bosses already are grumbling about time off for the wedding....sheesh! Thanks again, td

No need for her to be present when you are getting the paperwork together. You can do it all yourself. ie. Going to your embassy and get the affirmation to marry letter, going to the Ministry of Faireign Affairs to get it legalized etc.

She will have to be present for the actual registering of your marriage at the local Amphur though, as well as 2 witnesses.

Ah Norrad thanks for that. This is a big relief for me. At least I think so. Now we will see how she feels about me being loose in Bangkok without her, ha ha :o I knew that we needed to register together at the amphur with 2 witnesses...and that is no problem.....I believe we will do it the same day as our Buddhist ceremony. Thanks for the help td
