I visited Thailand on a tourist visa. As per my understanding tourist visa is valid for 60 days from the date of entry. Previously, several times the immigration officer has stamped for 60 days.

This time when I came to Thailand. they stamped for 30 days. Unfortunately, I did not check the passport stamping at airport. The question is -

  1. Has the rule changed for validity period of tourist visa ?
  2. If not, now what should I do - visit nearest immigration office for correction OR apply for extension / visa - run etc ?

Most likely explanation is mistake by airport immigration officer. Just likely pick-up the wrong stamp...when you process hundreds/thousands of people per day...everything likely turns to one big blur. That's why it's important to always check to make sure you receive the days you're entitled to AT THE AIRPORT.

Don't know how easy it is to change it ex-post facto...I think it can be done at a local immigration office by pointing out the error.

The rules have changed - only those allowed visa exempt entry (30 day stamps) receive a 60 day tourist stay. Others receive a 30 day stay. Both can normally extend another 30 days.

Could you please provide additional information on this rule change - that now only 30 day stay is allowed and not 60 days.

Because, I tried to search so many sites including the Thai Government site and none mention this unfortunate change of rule.
