Hi,

some good advice would be very welcome.

I have been in Thailand for some time and have been living off savings while I wait for investments to mature in the uk. I plan to go home in February/March 2008.

The problem that I seem to have is staying here after December. My passport has starting from jan 2007 two Lao issued tourist visas 90 days and 90 days then 3 months of cambodia 30 day runs, then a Penang issued 90 day tourist visa finishing at the start of January.

Can I do anymore Cambodia visa runs for the next couple of months?

or

Do I have to get another tourist visa? If so where can I get one locally in Asia as I Penang is rather reluctant.

Thanks again for any help

Deadandburied, there is unfortunately, more than one facet to this general

problem. If we can distill it down to some basic facts about what we know

to be true. The entry date of your first visa-exempt entry. Usually highlighted

with a #1 above. This is the start of your 6-month period. I'm guessing for you

this must have been sometime last JULY? Let's just say for example purposes

you entered on your first visa-exempt entry JUL 7th. This 6 month period will

end JAN 6th. Your next 6 month cycle will begin on your first visa-exempt entry

after that date. To clear this 6 month hurdle you may find it necessary to obtain

an additional 7 day extension on your tourist visa. That is of course, if you want

another 30 day stamp. For another tourist visa it's irrelevant. As you only want

to stay another month or so, I can see why you'd just want the 30 day stamp. :o

Actually, it would probably be helpful if you provided the exact dates, this is

confusing enough without trying to guesstimate. For me anyway. :D

Hi,

thanks for the reply and help. I see you edited from june to july thought july was right.

I arrived 12 th july so 180 days would be 10 january and since my visa runs out on the 7th following your advice of a 7 days extention is the best option.

As a side issue

If I chose to get a tourist visa and stay to say March or April whats the best options at the moment?

once again thanks

It is 6 months not 180 days, a minor but critical difference. Your period will

end JAN 11th, and the first day you could re-enter on another visa-exempt

entry would be JAN 12th.

It's almost impossible to make suggestions about tourist visas, Vientiane

seems to be the only nearly local embassy still granting and how much

longer will that last? Understandably everyone will be converging there.

I'm trying not to be cynical but the situation seems to keep progressively

deteriorating. You have options and that's always a good thing. :o

I should say, I guess there are always other consulates, Vietnam wherever,

it does look to be the time to start researching other destinations.
