Lobbies, Pacs

Featured Replies

Lobbies and PACS(Politial Action Commitee) groups of people or industries with special interests that attempts to imfluence or affect legislative votes on issues affecting them, or endorse( have elected) candidates sympathetic to their cause.

Dont know if in LOS these are part of the political fabric. If it were, would it not be good for Farangs to form their own Lobbie group or PAC for their own interests.

What do you think??

:o in a country as xenophobic as Thailand?

Well imagine the situation reversed in your homeland, and the probable reaction, and then multiply the reaction.

When GWB was up for election last time, there was a concerted email campaign (I'll try and find the references to this) aimed at US Voters asking them to consider not re-electing. This on the basis that his actions affected the whole world. The backlash was, unsurprisingly, enormous.

It's a nice idea though. I think keeping a low profile might be best :D

But doesn't the US have lobbyinsts foir the Irish, the Jews, the Blacks, the Hispanics???

Isn't that the same and without any adverse reaction?

Yes they do and many more as well.

The only backlash reaction is not against the individual groups but upon the legislators, that the people feel are too influenced and beholdin to the lobbies and

PACS because of the perks they are offered.

No it's not the same, they are US Citizens. Just to take your examples, what would happen if a citizen of Eire, Israel, Zimbabwe or Venezuela tried to organise a lobby group to influence politics?

In Thailand 99.9% (my guess) of farang do not have Thai citizenship. Even if, hypothetically speaking, Thai's would tolerate it, they have no right to interfere in the political process.

Practically speaking, it's a Xenophobic country. I would not like to be the one that tried doing it :o

I wiill say that I believe its the duty of the Embassies of each country to lobby in the US (or anyother country)for their interests.

Its the individual states in the US that haven't a lobby. All legislators at the federal level (ie sen rep) are paid by the fed. gov't and while representing their states sometimes vote the other direction of what the majority of constituents in their districts want, to go along with their parties objectives.

To have an effective lobby takes money to fund it. Legislators, wherever their at, have a price. Be that outright cash, political contributions, favors etc

Which brings us to the obvious answer. The Pipedream.

Now if one were to come up with a lets say a case hardened black pipe that can be fully concealed(and delivered to the right parties) It would be probably safe to say we would have a chance in hel_l in any form of lobbying , as It may be just my opinion but this matter is most likely the same in all countries............sold to the highest bidder 50,000 50,000 50,000 do I hear 100,000-100,000 100,000 100,000 500,000 to the distinguished gentleman over there 500,000 500,000 500,000 & so on. any interest or special interest always seems to depend on just how special your interest is. If our name is ATM -We probably have a better chance in special favors with the bar girls in Pattaya. :o
