Th Xenophobic? No Quotas Yet Except For Pr

Featured Replies

Thailald is often accused of being xenophobic. Think if they truely were there would be visa quotas in place by nationality. Excluding VOA, don' want to damage tourism industry, but for Non Imm.

quota in place for PR by nationality but that's really inconsequential, How many of us bother to try to apply for PR status?

I would guess that most would be from the Sub Continent or other SEA countries. Most westerners would not be interested ... for obvious reasons.

Naka.

Anyone who accuses Thailand of being xenophobic doesn't know the meaning of the word... which is "an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners." The quota for PR is 100 per nationality, and that seems designed to ensure an even distribution of foreign nationalities. Besides, the quotas are never reached. But restrictions on foreign visas does not equate to fear and hatred of foreigners anyway.

true, but nowhere except in ThaivisaForum :o

I really haevn't seen any sign of this xenophobia in Thailand among the folk who I mix with all seem very resonable if somewhat hard to fathom at times and all seem to respect me and find it hard to understand why I cant live there with my wife easily. Totally accepting of me probably much more so than foreigners who come to the UK.

Cm, the fact that there are no quotas for NON-immigrant visas pretty much means nothing towards your argument.

Stop being so obtuse! I'm arguing the Thailand is NOT xenophobic contrary what many TV posters have stated, citing no restriction on NON imm that many long term expats here are using to stay in LOS. Mentioned the PR thing just to be complete.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it

Who is obtuse. People on retirement extension are barred from PR status. I don't think you are going to prove anything either way about Thai xenophobic (which is deep and obvious to anyone paying attention) by talking about visa policies.

OJ now I understand what you meant.

Let's make a deal.

Please start a poll thread asking if Thialand is xenophobic, yes or no only two possible choices. I' do it myself but I'm not sure how to do a poll.

Agreed?

The results of the poll will put this question to bed, at least within TV.

cm, such a poll would be silly. All countries are xenophobic to one degree or another. It is not a yes or no question, more like a how much question. And it goes well beyond governmental policies.

How about, "Thailand and most of its people have historically been isolated from events, and therefore sometimes tend to exhibit behavior similar to xenophobia."

Like all countries, they do not have an absolute open-door policy, allowing convicted criminals, known terrorists, et al, to immigrate and become citizens. Having traveled less widely than its White foreigner non-immigrants, many Thais seem less aware or less caring about the world outside Thailand, except as it directly affects them.

Except possibly on ThaiVisa, nobody ever tells me, "Yankee, go home!" Immigration police kindly renew my annual request to stay here as a non-immigrant. If I really, really wanted PR status, I could probably do it, but I don't care to go to the trouble. Likewise, with citizenship. I'm happy here, and hope to stay, and I thank Thailand for letting me stay here.

Now, by request of the OP, who has created a poll, you may go here:
