Ok, here's one that may get some people a bit hot under the collar.

It struck me the other day that there's one particular piece of Western culture that would take root here in Thailand very nicely.

Freemasonry.

Think about it... Thai politics and business is very much who-you-know not what-you-know, the old-boy-network thrives here and you can't get anywhere without the patronage of some phu yai who will give a nudge and a wink in the right quarter. It's very secret-squirrel with no attempt at accountability, responsibility or transparency. The buck never stops with anyone in politics/business; it just keeps going until everyone's forgotten about it. The worst that can happen is someone will be moved to an "inactive post". Freemasonry could have been invented for Thailand; they're a perfect fit.

But are they here? I'm no authority on the subject, I'll admit, but I don't think Bhuddism would be an obstacle as the masons only have to acknowledge belief in a supreme being. Is there a law against them here? I'm just curious, that's all; I'm not a conspiracy-theory freak, honestly!

So Sorry :o

How about have another thought?...

I promise I'll contribute positively :D

Hey, I'm having thoughts all the time; it's just that most of them are bloody useless.

Anyway, your contribution was positive. I should've done my research instead of rushing into print. Curses...

Mind you, I'd be intrigued to know just how many of our exalted politicians are part of the funny-handshake crew.
