Hi-

My wife has just had a kid in her home province. I'm a US citizen and she is a US resident. We have an appointment coming up for getting the child it's US citizenship. My question is does the Thai birth certificate need to be created at her home amphur or can we have the birth certificate made in BKK? (I have heard that as long as you have the baby's hospital records you can have the birth certificate created in BKK.) Any help is appreciated. Thanx

Basically, the hospital will run the process of offering Birth Certificate for you while your baby was in the hosp (and you have to prepare some documents as a photo copy of your passport and the translated one (Thai) and etc.

If you miss the process above, I afraid you have to go to Amphur office of the province that your baby was born within 15 days.

(for delayed presenting to the official, the fine is 200-1000 bht)

1) For the birth certification and Born Identification are depend on the province where your baby was born. And yes,it must be from her amphur unless she was born in Bkk,so you have to go to "khet"

2) Documents

1 a photocopy of ID card (Father)

2 a photocopy of ID card (mother)

3 a photocopy of Tabienban (House register) That the baby will be moved in

4 a photocopy of the marriage bill

If father or mother is a foriegner, s/he has to bring a photocopy of his/her passport and 1 translated of it in TH (certified copy one)

At the same time that you are at the embassy applying for the American Citizen Born Abroad Birth Certificate, you should also apply for their Social Security card... It seems like we had to return to the embassy to pick up the completed certificate and at that time we also applied for his US passport... I think the social security card was mailed from the office in Manila...
