For the sake of newbies, I would appreciate your contributions to the following:

(1) If I marry a Thai girl, I will be eligible for a marriage VISA for a year. Can I assume that for the 1st year, I don't have to show any income requirement ? I've been reading the threads in this forum, it appears to me that the 40K per month requirement will come in when you seek EXTENSION of your marriage VISA.

(2) Now in order to show income of 40K per month to get my EXTENSION, I'll have to work. In order to work, I will need a WP. The natural choice is to set up a Thai majority company and get my wife to employ me so that I get a WP. The problem is the Company (even if it's Thai majority) wants to employ a foreigner, it must have a paid up capital of 2 million baht. Am I right to say that ?

1. No. There is no such thing as a marriage visa. You will be able to obtain a non immigrant O visa to visit wife for 90 day stay and may be able to obtain a multi entry type that would allow these visits for a one year period (although in the immediate area thay may requires show of funds in some manner). It is called a non immigrant O visa. The 40k requirement comes for a one years extension of stay for family reasons.

2. No you do not have to work or income from outside Thailand such as a pension and such. Family income can be your wife working - but if you work yes you will require a work permit. Company setup would not be a good idea I suspect as how would it make enough money to pay you 40k? Wife finding a job/running a business paying 40k might be an easier option as work permits/company setup and such would not be required.
