For me, the price of diesel is inconsequential. The great sense of Sabai Jai (relaxation) that I get from those long drives is far more valuable than a couple of hundred baht for a day's drive, and it's often the cheapest part of the trip, since I also enjoy looking at stuff being sold along the hiways- on my way back from Bkk last week, along the road, I bought:

A fresh honey comb with live larvae- just bite in, it's delicious! :o

A couple of Jasmine flower garlands

A couple of kilos of fresh* smoked fish

Enough Plaa Ra for a year :D

Some plants for my garden

A clay oven (to replace the one I got there last year)

Delicious fried banana chips of the sweet and salty varieties

Oh, and I bought a souvenir receipt for speeding from the police near Thoen- only 200 baht :D

Who could ask for a fuller day! :D

My idea of a long drive is the 15 k over to the other side of the island :o

Sounds fun ajarn, makes me wish for a bridge to the mainland :D

There is an american car club in Thailand. Ride Thailand, a MC magazine, use to have articles from the club.

If you go down Udom-Suk (Suk 103) to he end, go over the new fly over across Sri-Nakarin and continue down another kilo or 2 on the left hand side there's an American used car lot with all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff, from ex-mobster Lincolns to 'Vettes, and Cameros.

Has anybody actually been to this place recently.

I am looking for an older american cabriolet preferably red.
