Fellow Motorists,

I've seen car racing in Thailand on TV quite a few times and I'm curious:

1. In Thailand, where are these amateur/professional race tracks (in Bkk, other provinces, etc.)? I'm not a professional racer of any sort, but basically if I want to enter my car and myself into any kinds of races or pleasurable gas-gunning free of traffic rules, where can I go?

2. Where can I find businesses for amatuer or professional clients that do car tuning and modifying?

If anybody knows of such places, please share all you are willing to reveal. I'd like their contacts, addresses, phone numbers, etc. My inquiries also apply for off-roading.

Thanks!!!

Thanks! Whats the name of this place and their operating hours. Is there a phone number for this place? Or is it simply part of seacon square.

Try the drag strip behind Seacon Square...a buddy of mine says it's pretty good.

Hi Gearhead :o I'm not sure about hours/contact numbers, but you can try a google search for "race tracks in BKK" or something similar. If that doesn't do it, try doing a google for Seacon Square and then look from there. I don't know if Seacon Square owns this track, but given the location, they might own it.

Are you into mechanical work and do you do your own mods?

I'll try that, thanks.

Yeah I studied mechanical engineering at UC Davis. I was in a mech. student team building a hybrid car out of scratch (well, not completely from scratch, we used literally only the body and frame of a donated Chevy Equinox). We designed and fabricated our own engines and transmission and other components that made the car hybrid. My role was working on the transmission, which was a CVT.

That was pretty much the last time I worked on cars. I want to get into tuning and learn about this whole business or "industry" with tuners and off-roaders in Thailand. An engine's roar sounds nicer than a woman's moan....well...almost.

Thaiboxer,

I'm gonna be asking a dumb question cos I'm new to this site. When I signed in, your lastest reply (about how the hybrid work I did was interesting) popped up as a little window. I didn't see tabs on it to click for replies, so I just closed the little window and went to my topic and looked at the reply histories. I didn't see your lastest reply there although I know you replied. The same happened for others who replied to me and I was not able to follow up on them cos I closed the box before looking at who wrote.

What features am I not understanding?

What were the questions in your last reply?

Thanks

If you're into drag racing,Bangkok Drag Avenue is the place to go Saturday nights. Its located on Khlong 5,out past Rangsit. They have a website with the event dates and contact numbers.

Last year Seacon Square track had a drift, gymkhana and drag event on the 1st Sunday of each month, not sure about this year though as I havent been for a while.Check out the Thai tuning/modified magazines for upcoming events.

Hi Gearhead :o

You can use the "reply" button on the bottom of any message to reply back to the sender. Just scroll way down the page and you'll see it...should be on the right side. However, you'll have to delete what's already there, just like with email unless you want the sender's message to go along with yours.

I don't know about all the features either, since I rarely use anything other than "reply" for messages, or "reply"/"fast reply" for the main board.

As to my questions, I was asking if you're into automotive mechanics as I am and also where you're from. I'll pm you again and you can try to send one back.

Hi Thaiboxer,

I think I figured out how these pop ups work, I guess they're really automatic shortcuts to my inbox which I didn't even know existed...and then there are the main message boards where everybody can see whatever anybody writes. So here, if I got it right, this message is going to main board under this topic I started but not to your inbox where it would also "pop up" in advance when you log in.

I'm from San Francisco, Thai-American. I was born and raised there but growing up my family has brought me back and forth between Thailand and the U.S. I am very much interested in mechanics and ESPECIALLY relating to automobiles, a bit of this interest leans towards airplanes as well. I find Thailand easier and more fun to live in, of course over the fact that every place on earth has its good and bad points. Thus, I'm now here and I'm lucky I can speak Thai.

My early college years were spent dissecting cars (these are all degree-major extracurricular activities) and then ultimately towards the end building one with my team. Those were the good old days. Since we were on a schedule I sometimes had to cut classes to install this and that or whatever on the car because every now and then, people from GM would come over and inspect our progress (the original car was donated to us by GM). Sometimes I'd sleep in the garage with a few others over night in our sweaty and dirty welding jackets or whatever. I didn't graduate with nerdy grades but I had the experience. I knew people who only wanted to study from the whiteboard and not get their hands dirty...and I'm like, <deleted>?

Yeah and you're right, knowing your car is important so you don't get fooled by mechanics that try to sell you parts and services you don't really need. One day I hope I can afford to buy some classic model body and beef it up with a strong and modern engine. I got a friend (ex girlfriend) here who has an old volvo 70's model with a toyota supra engine. That thing tears through the road and people are like...<deleted>?
