Cw Shredder

Featured Replies

For long time I have used CWShredder by TrendMicro as part of my regular clean-up routine.

Usually before using it I check for updates but for some time now have been getting the “unable to check for updates” message. Thought this was just internet problems but it has happened so many times that I decided to check with their web site.

Seems the version I have of CWShredder V2.19 is the latest but I noticed that the “current” release is dated November 2005.

Does this still make CWShredder viable? Surely something must have come out to warrant an update in the last few years? Other clean up programs are updated on a regular basis some even daily so what is it with CWShredder that it does not need updating?

Just for the record it has never found any problems on my system I wonder is it doing anything at all?

Trend Micro CWShredder

Daffy.

:o

I think a particular malware tends to come in surges. CoolWebSearch infections were really big a few years ago, but not so frequent now (from what I've seen on the anti-malware support forums). Same with LOP infections which were big a few years ago. I guess the malware writers move on to newer stuff.

CWShredder was bought off the original Dutch author, Merlin, a while back by Trendmicro, but they seemed a bit slow in ever updating it. They also bought HiJackThis off him. Hopefully they'll maintain that a bit better.
