Green Book Fee

Featured Replies

I'm just wondering if the green book fee increases as the cc increases?

I'm thinking of picking up a bike in one of two ways. Firstly, I know a shop nearby that imports parts from Japan, and puts them together. The bike needs to be registered then as it has no green book, and they told me that it is 50,000 for bikes under 1000cc's.

My second option is to buy a bike I've seen listed on Yello, from a Thai guy, but I don't know yet if that bike has a green book either (I've haerd about a lot of Thai nationals not getting in trouble as much as Farang for not having a green book).

Do any of you have experience with this? Either way, I won't be getting a bike that is over 750cc, so I'm wondering how much I'll have to pay. I know that I have to go to Mochit to do the reg, I've got a non-Imm B and a work permit so I hope I won't need too much more!

50k sounds about right. Go with a bike that has a proper green book already.

i think that i saw a post about this somewhere recently .......but if i remember right... upto 400cc was 35k,upto600cc was about 60k and above that was 90k.

if you buy off a thai and it seems a low or good price then expect it doesnt have a green book .....when it does have they normally advertise that it has!!!

So, what is the worse case scenario if one [w/o plates] were to get caught by a hard line cop?

and I heard that you must have some kind of ownership doccumentation on your person at all times......what is the doccumentation??

Ownership document could mean the bill-of-sale or the import certificate right up to the green registration book. The latter is the most preferable.

From my days in Koh Tao early 2000s the cops from Surat Thani would take a 'Day Trip' to the island and set up 'fake' road-blocks. Any farang (with a trail bike that was without plates) daft enough to stop (or not take a trail detour around it) would be hit with around a 2000 baht fine and if they couldn't (or wouldn't) pay then the bike would be impounded and would be at risk of being ferried back to the mainland for sale at the cop auction.

On the mainland though they *could* confiscate a bike, but I've only ever heard of fines (usually 500 baht or so) being handed out there.

The confiscated and sold at auction tales are usually horror stories nowadays.
